Inside cabin on MS Richard

We had a fabulous north bound Norwegian coast trip in March and decided to go back to Norway again next year. The last time, we had a room on the 5th deck of the MS Kong Harold with a partially obstructed view, which was fine for us. The only time we were in our cabin, for the most part, was to sleep.

So we are considering getting an inside cabin this time, to save a bit since we won't be in the room much. The ship will be the MS Richard With. From what I've read, deck 3 can be very noisy, but I'd love opinions on inside cabins on deck 5. Pros and cons. And I've read that the starboard side is preferable. Thank you!

You asked this question some time ago, so I hope my reply is not too late to be useful! We sailed on the MS Richard With last January, we were lucky enough to have a very cheap deal, so we booked an inside cabin. At the time of booking we were confident that there was plenty of availability on the ship & that we would be able to upgrade. ( like you we had previously sailed in an Atlantic superior & not really spent time in the room)

We were expecting to be given the worst room on the ship, so I don’t know how typical our inside room was, but it was miniscule! There were 2 pull down beds, when these were both pulled down it left a tiny spot of floor space, just about big enough for one person to stand in.

we upgraded to an outside room on deck 3, this was still quite basic, but probably no smaller than the Atlantic superior.

Deck 3 was quite noisy, we were close to the main gangway (still in the cheap seats! I think if you booked it, you would get a better room!), noise was limited to arriving & leaving port, but obviously this happens multiple times. We did get used to it though. The advantage of deck 3 became apparent, though, we had dreadful weather (hurricane) and the movement is much less at the lower levels.

if we go again, (and we probably will) I think we would go back to an Atlantic superior, if we were paying full price,if we ever get another deal, we would book outside & consider whether the upgrade is worth it when on board.

I hope this is helpful! And that you have another great trip
