Nightowl11 Posted June 5 #1 Share Posted June 5 Are there umbrellas in the cabin on the Summit for the Alaskan cruises? Next week, most of the ports will be cold and raining. Should I pack my own?

jelayne Posted June 5 #3 Share Posted June 5 We have had umbrellas in the cabin and have used them. We only pack umbrellas if we are spending time on land pre or post cruise.
39august Posted June 5 #4 Share Posted June 5 I believe Concierge class and above have umbrellas in the cabins.
Rare hcat Posted June 5 #5 Share Posted June 5 we do ok with the cabin umbrellas but always pack small travel size ones as well..also good for bright sun!
BeasleysMom66 Posted June 5 #6 Share Posted June 5 I had one in my cabin but my small travel one is WAY better and fits in the bottom of my back pack. We got lucky on my cruise and I only needed it for a couple hours in the morning in Juneau. Otherwise it was sunny and gorgeous but I was prepared! doghog Posted June 5 #7 Share Posted June 5 On our last Celebrity NE/Canada cruise there were two umbrellas in the cabin. One was huge. Two of us could fit under it. The other normal size. Good enough for us. We always pack the small travel size umbrellas.
Northern Aurora Posted June 5 #8 Share Posted June 5 We have always had umbrellas in our staterooms. But layering clothing in Alaska is the key -- the outer layer needs to be waterproof (not water resistant). Several of the ports tend to be windy (such as Skagway) and the rain can be pounding down at an angle.
phoenix_dream Posted June 5 #9 Share Posted June 5 All cabins have umbrellas, but I prefer smaller ones. In Alaska it is best, IMHO, to just bring ponchos and other rain wear for walking around town.
pattyj 1204 Posted June 6 #10 Share Posted June 6 I found that the umbrellas were cumbersome to use. I take my rain jacket with a hood and have always been ok with the coverage and didn't have to worry about poking someone's eye out.
SbbquilterUT Posted June 9 #11 Share Posted June 9 Just back and did not find umbrella helpful due to wind. We wear a ball cap and then rain layer which works pretty well.

Go with a rain jacket and otherwise the stores at the ports will have umbrellas for sale if you want one after all. Enjoy your cruise!
