txart Posted July 3 #1 Share Posted July 3 Will Celebrity put a ship in Galveston and use the new Royal terminal?
Laura Hodges Bethge Posted July 18 #2 Share Posted July 18 We're always looking at new opportunities for itineraries and homeports. While we do not have immediate plans to position out of Galveston, it is definitely on the radar. 3

Regarding "live close by", please note the following from a July 31, 2023 article https://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/Galveston-cruising-growth-spurt: "...Fifty million people are within a 12-hour drive of Galveston. Narrow the search to an eight-hour drive, and 30 million are within reach, Rees said, and more than 70% of the port’s cruise passengers drive to the port. About half of those drivers are sourced from the Houston area, which has 7 million residents and is just an hour’s drive away. It was the second-fastest-growing city in the U.S. from 2021 to 2022 in number of residents, with a jump of more than 170,000 people — right behind the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, a four-hour drive from the port..." And yes, Galveston has no commercial airport at this time. However, I understand there is ongoing discussion to re-certify Scholes Field for commercial air traffic. The FAA has already performed inspections. Houston Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental airports are 45 minutes and an hour away, respectively. There are numerous Houston/Galveston cruise port transport options via cruise line transfers, independent shuttles, rideshares, taxies, etc.

BridgeMates Posted July 25 #11 Share Posted July 25 We returned last month from a week long cruise on Harmony of the Seas out of Galveston along with 14 family members. The ship was filled to capacity. Of course it was in the summer and kids are out of school so I'm not certain a ship of that size could fill up other times of the year. A smaller Celebrity ship would be perfect for so many of us! We loved RC when we were younger but for the past 15 years we've chosen Celebrity. Our adult family members would also delight in having a Celebrity choice too without having to fly as vacation time & money is usually limited when you're young. Hobby Airport (Houston) is only about 40 min. from the port of Galveston. Seriously, Ms. Hodges, give Celebrity a thorough study. Thanks for doing the Q&A.
