Question regarding overnights in Bermuda.

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am hoping to sail to Bermuda this Fall.  the ship overnighting for two days

Wondering what the rules are regarding getting on and off?  Can you go as you please or only during specific hours?  Also I understand prices are very high there. What are the taxes like for drinks etc you might buy on the ship While docked.  Finally can you carry beer, wine and soda that you buy back on board to enjoy on the voyage?

If anyone knows the answers to these question or have helpful tips I'd appreciate your help

You can come and go as you please while the ship is docked. You can stay off the ship the entire time if you wish.

I don't recall paying any taxes while docked for onboard purchases in Bermuda.

The rules for Bermuda itineraries are the same as all others - you can bring on soda to drink during the cruise, but any alcohol you bring onboard will be confiscated and not returned to you until the end of the cruise.

If you haven't done so already check out the Bermuda forum here on CC.  Lots of helpful info on things to do, places to see, transportation, etc.  Here's the link for you:

Thanks a million I will explore the link.   I have tried to go to Bermuda three times before but storms got in the way. I'm hoping I'll get there this time. Everyone's advice is extremely helpful

My friend used to live in Bermuda.  I would leave the ship when we docked and come back just in time to go home!

Nice to spend 2 days in Hamilton in a beautiful home and go to the local's hangouts!

taxes on drinks while in port only applies when you are ported in a US port .

This is not necessarily the case. Any port can require taxes be collected on purchases made on the ship while the ship is in port. This can especially happen on a European cruise that starts in Barcelona and never leaves the Schengen region.

Are you sure of that? I am pretty sure I have read of VAT (Value Added Tax) being charged while in at least some European ports.

Post #8 which is more specific to this was posted while I was composing my post.

Does anyone know if the casino is open while at Bermuda and will the musicians in all the venues be playing those evenings?

yes. musicians everywhere just like a regular day on the ship
Casino is only open at night like around 9 until early morning

My mistake . I thought the question was about a cruise to Bermuda.

There was a general statement made in this thread about taxes being charged nowhere,

Carnival (as does most lines) dock at Kings Wharf.  There is a ride (either water or land) to downtown Hamilton.  The island offers a lot in terms of exploring, but it is a very sophisticated island compared to a Caribbean island.  It is also very pricey.  While I do not know, I would say buying soda on land there would be al least expensive as on the ship.  Only basing that on land trips we have done there.

Yeah nothing on Bermuda is cheaper than the ship in my recollection. Sodas "may" be but even then I sorta doubt it
