Rare Murt22 Posted July 20 #1 Share Posted July 20 We are docking at Chioggia and doing the Venice on Your Own. We have booked our own St. Mark's tickets for entry at 11:30 (excursion is to leave at 9am and arrive back at 5), I understand the 90 minute each way transport time. My questions are: 1. Where do they drop you off? 2. What time do you need to be back (assuming 3:15?) 3. What else could we see on our own that is close enough to the square and return dock? Thanks for any help. Thanks for any help. The Doge's Palace is extraordinary. The Secret Rooms tour is a must see but you need advanced tickets. Some things you can do without advance planning: You can take the elevator to the top of the Campanile. The view is extraordinary. Right next to the Campanile is the oldest cafe in Europe, the Florian. Great desserts, You can order anything from coffee to a bottle of Dom Perignon. JerryInIL Posted July 21 #3 Share Posted July 21 Give plenty of time to return to the ship. We were on the Hidden Venice on foot tour which was great. The dock was a madhouse with all the shuttles fighting for a space and we waited probably 45 minutes to embark our shuttle. Make sure you take ID’s with you as they check them when you return to The Chioggia dock.
Rare kctwinmommy Posted July 21 #4 Share Posted July 21 The shuttle boat docked maybe 10 minutes walking from St. Mark's Square. Just make sure you aren't planning things down to the wire. It gets very busy, so your time to do things might take a little longer than you think. We did a St. Mark's & Doge's Palace tour for our excursion, but we did get like 50 minutes on our own before our tours started. It wasn't enough time to go up in the tower, which I was disappointed, but oh well. The line was quite long and moving very slowly.
