barryw1111 Posted July 28 #1 Share Posted July 28 I recently sailed American Jazz to Northwest U.S. final destination Portland The trip was fantastic. Ship was comfortable. Food fantastic. Entertainment was very entertaining. Looking forward to traveling with American to northeastern U.S.
Rare mj_holiday Posted July 28 #2 Share Posted July 28 We are looking at the Snake/Columbia River cruise. Glad to hear you had a fantastic time. I have a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind answering. I got a "Daily" from another American Cruise ship. It identifies Dinner as Open Seating 5:30-7:30. Open seating has a couple of meanings. For ACL does it mean you can come in for dinner anytime during the open hours? The video and brochures mentions "cocktail hour" and included beer and wine. Could you share your experience? Is a bar open in the afternoon for right after an excursion etc, and is the beer and wine only complimentary during meals or during the evening etc? Is lunch and Breakfast buffets or are there any specials/orders? Is there any room service? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. DaveinCharlotte Posted July 29 #3 Share Posted July 29 Open seating: come in anytime during the period, sit anywhere there's room. Beer and wine available lunch and dinner; hard drinks can be ordered, but be prepared to wait. Beer and wine available in lounge all afternoon, but bar not open. Beer, wine, and hard drinks available during cocktail hour and then later in the evening. All meals via order-off-menu; special requests honored, no buffets. Room service is available. (This info applies to all ACL ships, not just the Jazz.)
MOcruiserman Posted July 29 #4 Share Posted July 29 Open seating means you can arrive at any time during the dinner period and sit anywhere you like. The cocktail hour is one of the best parts of the cruise. There are excellent appetizers, entertainment and an open bar - wine, beer and spirits. On my cruise down the Mississippi they had my favorite bourbon, Makers Mark. The bar is not technically open during other parts of the day but I noticed people drinking at other times. DaveinCharlotte Posted July 31 #8 Share Posted July 31 They usually have a mixture of craft beers, "boring" beers, and a nonalcoholic beer. Not a big selection, mind you, But on 20 cruises I have never been disappointed re the availability of good craft beers.
