A free specialty dining meal is nice but how sad to not be able to have the event. Especially as one of the top MTGs.

Congrats and Enjoy your meal!

This is a 4-day Pacific Coastal B2B with a round-trip Hawaii from SF. I'm not surprised they cut out the cocktail party. It's lots of work for such a short cruise. I'm sure they'll have the cocktail evening on the Hawaii cruise. I think this is a nice gesture from Princess!

Ohhh! That's right! I forgot this was a B2B and thought it sad that they wouldn't have one on the 16 day.

In that case a very nice gesture from Princess!

This is a 4 day coastal. These super short cruises don’t really have MTG events. They will have one on the 16 day Hawaii cruise

I wonder if the passenger has the new Premier package and free specialty dining, if something else would be offered in its place.

Maybe a bottle of wine with dinner. Or if they are not in a full suite one morning in Sabatini’s breakfast. They couldn’t do it for everyone however the number 1 most traveled gets that for the entire cruise

@theliterateleprechaun  Thank you for posting the Patter.

Inside on Baja deck is the way to go for us too, every time.

It will be many moons though before we even sniff the the top 40 most travelled.  Hope you get to enjoy a real MTG lunch on the second leg.  I have read that some ships are doing away with this and instead offering a cocktail party with finger food.  My wife was once a guest of a MTG passenger at the "real" event.  She says that there's no way any cocktail party would be a fair substitute 🙂

We are in an inside cabin on Baja deck and @ljhershey there are no USB ports on the desk lamps. We have 1 plug by the hairdryer. Good thing we always pack a hub.

Off to meet up with the cousins for a drink!

There is an extra power plug on the wall on the right hand from the tv, check it out.

“Why can humans not use their millions of words to simply tell one another what they desire?”

With almost 89,000 reviews on Goodreads, you don’t need mine to convince you to read this one; the numbers speak for themselves.

If you haven’t read this touching story about a widowed night-shift janitor and a Giant Pacific Octopus, you must put it on your reading list!

I’ll remember this book for two things:

  1. 1. The theme of confinement/imprisonment

    1. 🐙 Marcellus is confined behind glass in the Sowell Bay Aquarium and in his inability to communicate with Tova

    2. 🐙 Tova is confined by Sowell Bay expectations (widow/knit-wit friends/cooking/cleaning/ friends grandkids) and her past/grief

    3. 🐙 Cameron is trapped by his immaturity and self-imposed limitations

  2.

  3. 2. The theme of grief and its diversity- all three have lost, but grieve differently

    1. 🐙 Tova grieves her family she lost; she keeps busy

    2. 🐙 Cameron grieves the family he never got to experience; he self-sabotages

    3. 🐙 Marcellus grieves the open ocean

I love how Tova, Ethan and Cameron spend Thanksgiving together at the end of the book.

Don’t forget to circle back and pause on the title after you’ve finished reading!

I thought this was a good choice to read as we started our Pacific Coastal cruise.

Seabands on and ready to call it a night! That's us in the red circle. The captain announced that we'll reach open water tonight just after 1 a.m. and that there are technical issues with the stabilizers. He's hoping we'll be able to deploy one of them but has warned us that we might be rocking and rolling. 🤢

Thanks so much for this info.  I will pack accordingly!  Nice to see the photos too.  So many happy memories.  We also generally book inside cabins...so much quieter.  Bon  voyage!

I'm pleased to see that Princess brought back the name "Princess Patter." It's a classic from the beginning of Princess. I was on the Ruby in Feb 2024. One of the comments I made on the survey was to bring back the name.

I will be back on the Ruby in January/February, 2025.

Well, that was a rough night and morning! We've sailed around the Cape and weren't seasick, but the past 10 hours have been 🤢🤢

𝐀 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫

𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘺

Middle Grade Fiction

I chose this book because (1) at the moment we are sailing parallel to the travels of the main character in this book, (2) the author comes from the state we are sailing past and (3) I enjoyed ‘The One And Only Ivan’ by Katherine Applegate and searched for something similar. Rosanne Parry writes with the same lens and POV.

Swift is a young wolf cub who lives with his siblings (Sharp, Pounce, Wag, and Warm) and parents in a mountain pack. He learns to hunt, compete with his siblings for hierarchy, and watches over a new litter of cubs. When a rival wolf pack attacks, his family scatters, and Swift is left alone and scared. He ends up travelling 1000s of miles across the Pacific Northwest and deals with forest fires, hunters, highways and vehicles, and hunger before making a new home.

Teachers, librarians, and parents: there’s a fantastic educator’s guide on the author’s website. In the final pages of the book, there’s a great map where students/children can trace the path of OR-7 as well as many great facts about wolves which would be a great springboard to post-reading discussion.

I loved learning about the symbiotic relationship in the wild, the wolves’ social network and how they communicate and interact. I learned about hindmilk and ungulates (which became dinner conversation) and I laughed at Swifts’ name for skunk (Not-lunch) and the pups’ names which described their personalities.

I think readers who’ve uprooted from home and family and relocated will appreciate this one. I thought of my own immigrant experience and those who extended a warm welcome to me when I arrived in a new country.

Rosanne Parry has several books I’ve added to my reading list. She is an award-winning Portland, Oregon author.

Off to the whale lecture!

I remember that area being 🤢 even with functioning stabilizers. Congratulations on surviving the turbulence!

I don't see any movies under the stars listings on the Patter. Are they showing anything on this leg?

I will try this book.  I am still in awe of the species octopus from My Octopus Teacher on Netflix.  Please look for this fantastic documentary.

We first sailed on the Ruby in October 2011 for a 30-day Med. Grand Adventure (Rome to Ft. L) and then in April 2024 we did a B2B Hawaii + Alaska. Each time, it's been a perfect combination of great ship, wonderful locations, and fantastic staff. Glad you've enjoyed your Ruby adventures and have more to look forward to next year.

Just started following you and some "Live" threads. I am confused as to the "Live" part. You are almost a month out and are writing "Live" and now about past cruises? At what point is it" Live"? I thought that is when you were on the ship or the plane flying to the place where you get on the ship . I see you have a badge and 5 points. What do you use the points for?
