Roupa2 Posted September 13 #151 Share Posted September 13 First time on HAL (Volendam) now. No complaints about main dr( 2 nights so far). Pinnacle Grill tonight was a disappointment to us. Lobster bisque was just “ok”, but not very hot. Scallops were mild tasting, not hot and on a bed of very “watery”, bland risotto. Rib eye steak was cooked as ordered, but thin and a bit tough. Key lime pie was ok. Imitation baked Alaska reminded me of a Twinkie with a bit of ice cream inside and covered with a thick layer of soft meringue. Service was pleasant but mediocre. Tho this thread started out re: Pinnacle Grill, just noting extra while I’m at it…. Entertainment tonight was Breton Thunder. Wonderful voices, high energy, with touching melodies mixed in. Looking forward to another performance. Very clean ship and pleasant crew!

I'm booking my dining reservations now and I'm only seeing dinner available. But do try it.
Loveofsailing Posted September 23 #153 Share Posted September 23 I am curious about the new Pinnacle menu. It is 3 weeks since they announced it, and yet on my upcoming cruise in January on the Navigator App, it shows the old one. Hope they are trying it out on a few ships, not fleet wide. My favorites are gone!
wdw1972 Posted September 24 #154 Share Posted September 24 Lunch still can't be booked in advance. Someone on Westerdam now confirmed that the lunch menu (which appears to be almost identical to the dinner menu minus the regional specialties) is still $19. Given that the 2 steaks shown in ounces are the same size for both lunch & dinner, it appears that lunch isn't a scaled-down portion (which I would have preferred). For big appetites who aren't at the 3+ star level clearly lunch could be a big money saver. For me, the old lunch menu was so much food I could never eat dinner - the thought of leaving the Retreat, getting dressed & going for a massive Pinnacle meal at noon just doesn't have much appeal. cccole Posted September 24 #155 Share Posted September 24 So many different opinions. I would rather have a Pinnacle meal at lunch and enjoy my evenings in shorts and t shirt. Love the new menu. JMO. Cherie

Cherie I now know where I will be eating on sea days With so many sea days to/from Hawaii in January, I should be able to try and photograph most of the menu items. 5
Rare Crew News Posted Sunday at 03:21 AM #157 Share Posted Sunday at 03:21 AM After a review of both menus, i am convinced that they are merely a test. The lunch menu has more entrees (other than specials) than the dinner menu. Sea bass is only on the lunch menu. The lunch menu has only one dessert and it is under the "Far East" tab. 1

I am on the Rotterdam now and just reviewed the PG menus. It is the same menu at lunch and dinner as it has been for years . Since we are in Scandinavia there is a king crab special with an upcharge. That pretty much sums up what we were served as Baked Alaska on. Zuiderdam a year and a half ago. Except the gooy meringue was a bit tough, and it was the majority of the dish. It didn’t seem fresh, and the ice cream was just a dab in the center. The cake was very Twinkie. I used to enjoy just the Cherry Garcia ice cream with the cherries on top. Our waiter said it was no longer available that way and that they assemble the BA downstairs a couple of days in advance and it goes in the freezer. Combined with very slow “service”, for the second time. That was our last trip to the PG.
Seasick Sailor Posted yesterday at 11:39 AM #161 Share Posted yesterday at 11:39 AM Currently on Westerdam. Tomorrow night is the last Pinnacle Grill dinner til we disembark on the 24th. Hopefully the switch over to Tamarind will be as good as always.

I thought the crêpes Suzette served in the last Rudi's I ate at was equally terrible. A leftover crepe from the lido with marmalade. Not even very warm. I think some other companies still flame desserts.

This is the cherry sauce for the baked Alaska in Princess Grill. We also had crepes suzette on another night and yes, Grand Marnier was involved.
