Transatlantic March 2025

We are programmed for Fort Lauderdale to Southhampton in March 2025. I’m interested in hearing thoughts on the weather conditions. Will we be able to use the balcony?

Most of my eastbound TA’s have been in March (only one in April). It is normally warm the first few days out of Florida, then becomes progressively cooler. Have a lovely time!

If you have a cabin on the south side that should help. If you are on QM2 in a sheltered balcony, that may be lovely.

There are no cabins on 7 Deck in QM2. Please double check that. Here’s a useful link to help get around:

Lovely cabin. Not stayed in that one but have 7171 and the deck 6 below yours. 7171 would have been a preferable cabin for the direct sun but it should be warm.

 

We have sailed your itinerary a couple of times on Victoria and if you are sailing the southern route via The Azores then yes, you'll have decent weather for most of the trip unless the e=weather 'turns' and that is in the lap of the Gods.

A QV March TA is likely to be the last leg of the world voyage? 

We did FL to Southampton on QV in March 22 - when the ship had to return to the UK post haste because of covid and the start of lockdown.  Further planned ports including NY were omitted, it was a straight run.  

 

The weather was fine, good enough for walking out on deck but not for sunbathing in swimwear.  A warm top layer would be advisable.  Depending when in March, weather as you get closer to Europe will vary.  The beginning of the month is likely to be still a little wintery with winds, later may be better and feeling more spring like.   

 

We usually opt for deck 7 but further midships.  The even numbered rooms will be on the north side but as you are aft you should also get any later sun from the west.

Did you 'do' the northern route?

We have in the past when sailing the last couple of sectors of QV's worldie and our New York stops were on the northern route which is cooler than The Azores itinerary.

 

7150 won't get the sun as much/early as 7171 but due to the extensive aft balcony, will get more than pure port side cabins and I would say, the weather was certainly good enough for sitting in swimwear well after Hamilton. I spent most of our last Hamilton stop watching the Oracle and Emirates skimming the water when practising for the America's Cup as we were lucky enough to be docked by the Dockyard.

As I said, weather is in the lap of the Gods.

I believe that 7150 is a corner cabin at the stern of the ship. You should have plenty of afternoon sun (when not cloudy or overcast).

Ah, I was thinking TA from a QM2 itinerary back to the UK from Caribbean next March. 
Anyway, that link should help you do some research on how to get around QV.

Got lucky. Was on waitlist. Booked on a different crossing, but this was the one we wanted.

In reply to “will we be able to use the balcony?”, the answer is - absent gale-force winds that close all outside areas - absolutely you can use the balcony. It might not be the most pleasant experience, such as the time we wrapped up in most of our clothing, coats, gloves, and a blanket to step out on the balcony during a freezing temperature winter TA.
 

The real question is, “How uncomfortable will it be to use our balcony?”
 

Some of us have also been known to use the Grills Terrace hot tub on winter crossings. Not too bad until you need to get out of the hot water.

Optimally the revised question is “how comfortable will it be to use the balcony.” Sounds like layers are in order.

You will not need layers until at least a day or two after Hamilton in our experience.

 

The Northern routes we took, NY to S'ton were pretty cold. The Southern route via the Azores, which is the one you'll be taking was  more forgiving weather wise.

The only thing I'd say though, is your balcony with it being mid aft to port side, might be more exposed to the wind.
