I saw people mention an app to give directions and points of interest for driving around the various islands and I can't find it now.  Can someone remind the name?

Guide along, https://guidealong.com/ there might be another, but I don't know the name

We used Guide along on all 4 islands, we called the voice Bob in the box.

My one hint is to do a little pre-planning before use, particularly if you are trying to pack stuff in a given time frame. Bob will point out lots of good things and you might need to skip some so you don't run short on time latter in the day. The one day we really wished we had planned better was Oahu, we started in Waikiki and ended up on the north shore in the afternoon, bad, bad. It would have been so much better to have headed directly to the north shore by way of the Dole plantation in the AM, then worked out way back the coast to Waikiki later in the day.

Guide Along. It is inexpensive and terrific. We used it on all of the Hawaiian Islands. We would not  have seen and understood as much as we did without it.

The company has many different ones and I know that from now on when we are taking driving vacations we will purchase this app.

( We nicknamed our app “ Little Man” because he was like a tiny guide talking through our cell phone)

I used Shaka guide recently. It is much more expensive but it does guide you with lane choices and upcoming turns. I don't think guide along does guide you.

Thanks. That is good to know. I know you can go either way on guide along.

Shaka has definite starting points and a direction of travel to go. It does give approximate times left to finish the your tour.

I didn't buy both so I don't know which one is better. Both apps have many fans of them.

Guide along will let you start anywhere when it detects that you are on the route in either direction. The one thing the apps don't really know is your schedule so suggestions like a good place for lunch or snack might not be relevant. I would recommend that you do a little planning to familiarized the major sights along the route so you know the how to meter your time, if you stop at every mentioned sight you will run out of time. Guide along did give time estimates for some of the big deviations and we did some, but not others.

I drive the Hana Road at least twice a year and have used both Shaka and Guide Along and I find Guide Along is the overall better of the two. At this point I can give the tour myself but it is much easier if we have guests with us to just have it ramble on over the car's speakers.

GuideAlong = Gypsy, same product new name.

Did not know that.  7 years ago was the last time we used an app like that. Thanks for the update.
