ocean lover Posted April 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2006 I HATE the idea of a 1+hour connection from Orlando to Port. After flying from NY and then another connect sounds like too long a day (we also have to drive into NY fron Conn.) Any place near port to stay over? If I'm going to have to travel that long, I'd like to stay the night before close to the port and board asap and get almost a full day on the ship before we sail? Any info would be appreciated....Thanks, Bertz
Inshape Posted April 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2006 Hotels are by far less money in the ORlando area. Then head to the port in the morning. It is less than 50 min away. We are doing Mariner for the second time because it is just so easy to get to. We fly direct from WIlliamsburg to Orlando. Our closest carrier in VA also goes to other locations in Fl but with lay overs in Atlanta making the total travel time triple if not more. So we are happy to bypass Miami and stick with Port Canaveral. Google hotels in each area and see the rates. Orlando beats the Port Canaveral or Cocoa Beach hotels. Buccaneergirl Posted April 4, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 4, 2006 There is a brand new Residence Inn at the port and the Radisson is close by too. I have never stayed at either hotel, but have heard from these boards that both are very convenient.
HB Cruiser Posted April 4, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2006 Never done what inshape suggests, we usually stay in Cape Canaveral at the Radisson Resort at the Port. There are a TON of other options that are less expensive than there. We enjoy going to Grills (a restaurant) at the port and watching the ships leave port while eating dinner, knowing we will be on a ship leaving the next day. It is very relaxing getting up the next morning knowing it is only a 10 minute ride to the pier and getting on that big ol' ship. BABYJOSIE98 Posted April 4, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2006 We usually rent a car and head to Cape Canaveral and check in at the Radisson. It has a great pool area and a nice breakfast in the morning. Very close to the port. We also love GRILLS!! When we sailed on Sunday we would go to Grills on Sat night and watch all the ships set sail and enjoy the atmosphere. Then in the morning you can use the hotels free shuttle service or drop your party and luggage at the port and then go return the car. The car rental agency's will bring you back to port. Very easy! I like being close to the port in the morning!! You can print a 10% off coupon on grills website.. I think it is.... http://www.gogrills.com

DonnaK Posted April 4, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 4, 2006 we're heading into Orlando ahead of time, renting a car from Budget and returning it in Port Canaveral. We got a 2 bedroom suite at the new Residence Inn at the Port for $149/night. Then we'll rent a car for the return trip. For 5 people, it is MUCH cheaper than using transfers. Inshape Posted April 4, 2006 #9 Share Posted April 4, 2006 Yes it sure is. We get up early and return the car by 11;30 in Port Canaveral area and board early. It saves us money staying in Orlando and we have time to do a park when we land that prior day. We have passes in Williamsburg for Busch Gardens which allow free entry into Sea World. So getting there for a few hours is still fun. Get to pet the dolphins there and ride some rides and have a nice day. Then we head to the hotel after dinner and get up and drive just 50 short minutes to the Port area and return the car--still a one day rental from the day before when we landed. And then courtesy shuttle to the port and we are on the ship--having lunch and hanging out at the pool already. What a day...can not ask for anything better!
