Crosboro Posted April 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2006 Does anyone know what Princess has done about the non-essential crew (room stewards, dining staff, etc.) while the ship is being repaired? Send them back home? Put them up somewhere? Can't imagine they would be able to put them on other ships for a month or so. This has to have a big financial impact for most of them. noyb Posted April 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2006 We were on the Sapphire Princess last week and one of the assistant cruise directors mentioned to us that some members of the Star crew were being reassigned to other ships based on seniority. This in turn was forcing the furlough of less senior staff on other ships. He was quick to add that most employees felt Princess was doing their best to treat all staff members fairly. Seems like the fair thing to do and it also helps Princess hold onto their senior crew members.....:)
cryscruiser Posted April 13, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2006 I would imagine that the crew are still on the ship. When they are in drydock, all of the employees are there with certain jobs, such as moving furniture in, arranging things, etc. Everyone is needed to perform such a huge task in such a short amount of time. This is one big job, and everyone will be needed. I'm sure a lot of those waiters find themselves with cleaning rags in hand.

The crew that was at the end of their contracts were sent home. Our friend's cabin steward was one of them, the fellow who walked us off the ship was another and they both said this was what was happening. Others were being sent to other ships and not quite sure what happened to other.
