Carolyn that's great news about Alex. He probably can't to go back to camp. I can understand you when you tell you mother things then they forget, it is so frustrating. But you wre right in moving the lladro etc. Did you also remeber her jewelry. Things that can be put in a pocket tend to disappear. Went through that with my mother when she was in NH.

Tami thanks for the recipe, I definately want to try that.

Right now I'm craving food and cigs, I've been good all day. So I figured I'll spend some time on the computer.

Mary keep up the good work. Walked another mile today. I'm trying. Talk you tomorrow.

Mom's not the "old" one... (only 74) Dad's 86.. and up till last year was in much better health ... but being her Primary caregiver has caught up to him. Still need to take the "good" stuff from the vault "but" can't do it till I get it appraised to transfer the insurance... they have it on a special rider that they're only allowed to take it out a couple of times a year and I think one ring is "underinsured" (not their choosing... just since it hasn't been appraised since purchase and I don't think they have a detailed description). Unf.the ring's not to my taste (love the centerstone but it's a detailed snowflake kind of setting.. just too much for me) so I'd probably keep it in vault too... will need to find a jeweler to give an honest (not inflated) appraisal while I stay there... don't want to let it out of sight, since Mom's unable to go out and it's not insured if anyone else takes it out.

Still haven't been to gym.. waited around ALL day for the painting crew to come.. at 1PM was getting antsy... and finally left house at 4 to pick up Mike to get car from shop. If it's not one thing it's another...

I finally gave in and had some watermelon, still don't know if the cortislim has helped me get of gain/plateau...

will see.

Have a great evening.

Hello all.. I havent been online in awhile.. I came back to the board in hopes of some motivation.. I so desparately need to lose weight.. I just cannot stay motivated. I have tried so many things and just dont stick with it.. I am back yet again and I am leaning back to Atkins.. I seem to have the best results with atkins.. Can anyone give me any words of wisdom?? I realize that ultimately this has to begin with me and I am the only one that can make myself stick to this... But I truly need some peptalk about this and hoping you guys can help me.....

Hi Waterbound,

nice to meet you! I just joined this thread a couple of weeks ago. I've been doing an atkins/southbeach blend for about 6 months now although I seem to have taken the last 8 weeks off. I've lost 30 pounds but all the graduations/ family reunions, etc since we got back from the cruise mean I keep losing the same 5 pounds every week! At least we're all done with parties for a while! Maybe I can make some progress again.

I really feel like it's never been easier to eat low carb, even without buying alot of the new "low carb" products. My youngest has alot of food allergies so we try to stay away from highly processed foods. About the only low carb products I buy are chocolate and tortillas. Low carb tortillas are my little one's main source of bread since most commercial bread has either eggs or corn syrup or starch.

I highly reccommend that you check out http://www.foodnetwork.com for some easy recipes. There's a show called low carb and lovin' it that's just great and all the recipes are posted. Also many of the other shows have been doing low carb recipes too. Sara's Secrets had one yesterday that had recipes that could be done in 15 minutes or less. Foodnetwork has a whole section devoted to low carb lifestyles including a Q&A which is answered by the guy from LC&LI. He lost over 200 pounds on low carb. When I'm sagging in spirit I go in and read about him and his family again for inspiration. The 4 of them lost over 500 pounds.

Good luck on your weightloss journey. Remember that even the longest trips start with 1 step in the right direction. I saw a documentary last night that predicted that in 40 years 100% of the population in the US will be obese. I for one intend to prove them wrong!

Hello everyone. Linda, I wasn't really good yesterday. Had too many pumpkin seeds ( they supposedly are zero carbs (5 total carbs, 5 fiber), but I don't think you are supposed to eat 8 servings:mad: Also had a couple of handfuls of cashews. Have been good so far today, but it's only lunch time. I am going to curves after work so maybe I'll stay on track.

Carolyn, hope things are going well. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised when you go to the gym. I'm rooting for you. And don't worry about the watermelon. It's July for heaven's sake!

Tami, thanks for the ricotta recipie. Eveyone keep up the good work. Do do as I do, do as I say. Mary

Well the last two days haven't been that "good" for me...

(watermelon, blueberries and a few extra carbs)....

but under the circumstances things could have been alot worse...

now the good news.. ALEX IS going back to camp on Sunday...

got the green light at 9AM... I'm SO relieved... he's such a good kid that I didn't want him stuck at home for another 2 weeks of waiting.. the finger's healing nicely so he'll just have to have the splint on for another 2 weeks and then more x-rays.

No big whoop...much better than pasta or fries:D Everyone have a great weekend. I'll be checking in ( Isn't it great that the email notification is working!:D :D Take care, Mary

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I was doing ok until I went into 7/11 this afternoon planning on getting a bottle of water. HA Ended up with a coke slurpee and hostess cupcakes and red licorice. Then DH wanted spaghetti and salad for dinner so we ordered out and split. I don't remember the last time I had pasta. It actually didn't even taste that good, also had froccia bread and even that tasted blah.

I was doing so well my first week of not smoking and losing 4 lbs. I've put back the 4 lbs. BUT I HAVE NOT SMOKED. My cravings for cigs are really decreasing the wellbutrin must be kicking in. But I need to work on appetite. Tomorrow is DH birthday we're going to a big county fire dept parade. There will be no Atkins food there, and Sunday having birthday bar b que. So I'll try to be somewhat good and start all over again on Monday.

I've been chewing gum like crazy. Trident I hope it's ok no one ever answered my earlier posting about trident and Atkins.

Carolyn how di dAlex make out at the Doctors today? Hopefully good no surgery and back to camp. How are things with Mom? Caretaker working out?

Mary where are you? You haven't posted in a few days. Some I'm concerned that you've fallen off the wagon.

We have a crazy week next week because it is our county's fair. Both older kids have mini 4H projects to finish and turn in Wed. Then Carina has a performance on Monday night. I know we'll be eating at the fair that night. I'm hoping for a shishkabob stand or that the Lion's Club has their porkchop on a stick stand. Luckily for me it's a small fair with lots of corndog and elephant ear stands and I detest corndogs and elephant ears! The walking tacos and hawaiian ices will be hard to pass up though.

I sat down and wrote out goals and dates for myself tonight, just 8-10 pounds a month depending on how many fridays there are in a month would put me at goal weight of 150 by the end of January. Now I just have to get in there and do the work.

Hopefully if everything "goes as planned" we'll be dropping Alex off at 2PM tomorrow. Then I MUST rush back home (1 hr ride) get the car packed up and then go DIRECTLY to Mom to rescue from the "b*ch" from H#ll!!!

Mom called me up this AM to say that the PT person who's working w/Dad will be coming to her at 5:30PM to work. She was happy to know that she'd get a decent PT person. While she was on the phone the aide GRABBED the phone saying that she needed to speak w/me... and started RANTING about MOM saying that it's all in Mom's head that she's IMPOSSIBLE and that we'll NEVER get ANYONE to livein... that LISA (aide) is shaking and that she can't take Mom for one more second ... that it's not the $$ (though I'm sure that's part of it) ... and that what ever $$ we have we'll NEVER get anyone to take care of Mom... going on and on w/o letting me get a word in edgewise. Then later Mom calls asking when I was getting down there 'cause Lisa was leaving FOR GOOD (or so she said)... So frantically I start calling any agency I can to find someone to watch her (I think what Lisa was/is doing would be considered Senior Abuse). Lisa said don't worry about all the bank info that's left around... etc (now I AM worried... first thing Monday AM I'm going to bank to change account #). Well I was going to rush down, with my bad back I CAN'T lift Mom (I've got 3 herniated discs and heel on other foot is flaring badly... can hardly walk w/o limp). So I kiil the whole day trying (w/o any luck.. I'm sure Lisa knew that) to find anyone... then I told Mike I'm driving down and then realize I better do it tomorrow after dropping off Alex since the car left here isn't really up to 50 mile each way drive in heat (Mike says it's making percolating noises). So I'm left w/calling Mom.. she's asking when I'm getting there... ask to speak w/Lisa who at first refuses to talk. Then I explain EVERYTHING w/timetable.. she says she wouldn't abandon Mom BUT she's doing everything in her power to make Mom's life a living hell. So that's what I've got... I MUST get everything packed up for Alex and get him off... EVERYONE PLEASE PRAY he has a good time and doesn't injury himself any more or even worse get things worse off.. and then definitely need surgery.

Carolyn

(who's barely able to keep sane.. maybe it's the Cortislim..

hasn't gone to gym today... BUT has managed to stay "honest for "almost" two days.. still have a few hours left.)

Carolyn, Just said a quick prayer for you and Mom. Hope everything works out for you. It seems terrible for you.

Linda, yes, I have fallen off the wagon AGAIN, but Tomorrow is another day. We had (I am almost ashamed to admit) fried clams and onion rings last night. Today was a wedding. I really didn't do too bad at the wedding. Had cheese and pepperoni, celery and peppers with dip for appitizers. ( had one cracker). Then had salad and meatballs and sausage for dinner. All the other stuff was pasta.

Of course I had dessert ( they had many tiny pasteries). I had coffee and one alcoholic drink. All the rest water. Did have 2 cups of coffee with coffeemate. The coffemate ( the only additive they had) tasted sweet to me. So all in all I had a lot of stuff I shouldn't have had. Am going to my grandson's 3rd birthday party tomorrow, but my daughter knows what I can have, so she won't have anything for dinner I can't have. This is a private party , not a cake and ice cream party.

I will try to be good tomorrow and definately Monday is an induction day ( Have I heard that somewhere before???) I will be good. Wish me luck. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. (Hang in there Carolyn!!) Mary.

Carolyn,

There are agencies set up to handle abuse cases of senior citizens and most have toll free anonymous hotlines to call to make a report. Check in your phone book or call your county or state office of children and families and they can point you in the right direction.

And I would RUN, not walk to the bank and not only change those numbers but also have a note made on the file that you are having trouble with this person. Anyone who goes out of their way to tell me to not worry about the bank stuff laying around would immediately send off alarm bells. I'm cynical for sure but I've been burned on occasion.

I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. I've been though it with my MIL when cancer and pain killers started messing with her brain. It was horribly stressful and there were 4 children to share the responsibilities. Unfortunately we learned that there are all kinds of people out there preying on people just like my MIL who are not the independent people they used to be. We were lucky that the only thing of great value (though sentimental mostly) that we lost was a quilt she had made for one of the grandkids but she would call my BIL at least once a day and want to write a check for someone. Sometimes it was someone who gave her a sob story, sometimes it was a telemarketer, most often times it was Robert Shuler. Luckily she had given my BIL all the check writing responsibilities and he was able to pacify her by telling her that she might need that money but if she wanted to give a gift to someone when she didn't need it any more she could put a sticky note on her will. Fortunately she never did so we made all her donations to her church.

Don't forget to take time for yourself too.

Tami

Carolyn, I really wish I could help you. It's so hard when parents age and they lose their independance and need help. But Lisa sounds like a real b***h. If she's in the field shes in she should be able to work with the elderly and understand how hard this is for them and then threaten to abandon her. I hope your going to report this behavior to the agency.

Carolyn I think you need to have a good stiff drink or several glasses of wine.

Hope all goes well with Alex tomorrow. I'm sure he can't wait. He being away should be one less stress for you.

Mary I'm glad you posted. We're all having problems staying good and think back to last year how good we all were. Did you have a good time at the wedding.

At a fire dept parade tonight and after I ate what ever I wanted plus cookies a friend's friend came up to me and told me how great I look. I made me feel good cause I was feeling fat when I left the house.

So after DH birthday bar b que tomorrow it's back on induction. But I have been walking a mile almost everyday doing the walk away the pounds tape. I'm praying for all us. We need it.

2 weeks not smoking :)

Here's the scoop....

I'm high-tailing it to bank on Monday....

Lisa's a "green card" w/2 young kids (2 1/2 and almost 8)

she was "recommended" by podiatrist's office (her sister was the receptionist). For 1 1/2 yrs was ok... as part time help.. mainly having my Mom listen to her problems and was a "paid" companion when Dad would go out on errands (so Mom wasn't left alone). Mom justified it by saying she used HER SS $$.. .so it wasn't an extra expense. Well, when Dad's health started to go awry (probably from being SOLE caregiver... developing CHF year ago in March but when I'd run down to take him to specialists at Northshore Hospital... in October and November) they would use her a few hours more.. but still mainly on a part time basis... few hours here and there. By then she'd have a "permanent" part time job (good $$) taking care of pre-schooler and getting the ol.der kids off to school for a family that she had Mom give reference to. Well my parents were the fill-in... and she learned how to juggle. Unf. she's an independent "operator" (and YES, from what i see now she really is an operator). I was a bit uneasy when Mom started calling her a 3rd daughter.. (right before Dad fell and was hospitalized) and I started to see her slightly erratic behaviour. When Mom was in rehab (more hell-hole nursing home), Lisa wouldn't go visit her but would play on Dad... and say Mom had changed. But she made Mom not use the laundry service there.. had Lisa go to THEIR house to do the laundry and she'd bring it back when "she" felt like it... I could go on and on now... but they trusted her and she'd somewhat cover herself. She made it her business to go to Dad more times when he was hospitalized and in rehab. But when he was released she made a schedule to be with him only 2hrs some days (leaving him alone the rest.. esp. when he was released and they wanted him to have full time help.. she assured the exit person she'd be around). 2 days after I left him he slipped (on bottom he refused to say he fell). Ended up in hospital and needed IV AND tranfusion... so that's where I'm at.. need to get her out w/o fireworks and then I meet w/lawyer to make sure they're "protected". Did I ever mention that Dad's a retired NYPD captain... (over 30+years on force).

So wasn't too comfortable of her at first... always said she's the help.. only recently he's come to depend (and trust) her...

I just pray Mom doesn't say (or do) anything foolish to push Lisa over edge before I get there... unf. the camp doesn't have cell-phone signal so I'll be AWOL for a few hours.

I think I have everything packed for Alex. Hope he has a super time so I can sign him up for last session, if need be. Libby's asking me about a birthday party for her (Aug. 8 she'll be 8) but I'm trying to put her off as much as possible and not ignore their needs.

Linda, Good To hear you're still not smoking. Great about the exercise as well. It looks like another INDUCTION MONDAY for us. It's nice having someone in the boat with me:rolleyes:

Carolyn, Tami gave you great advice. You are really in a tough spot, especially living so far away. Also there must be elderly services there. You could give them a call, they might have lists of people available. I know we had problems. We wanted a full time day caregiver with my Mom while we worked. We never found anyone we trusted enough. My prayers are with you.

The wedding was very small but it was very nice. The DJ music was too loud, but that's my "old woman" talking. The kids had a great time. My SIL and I got up and danced to Shania Twain's "I feel like a Woman" song. That was MY exercise for the day!! Today will be much calmer and hopefully a lot more low/carb friendly. Everyone stay well ( and Carolyn, that cortislim must be working, because at this point you should have pulled all your hair out:eek: )

I'll be checking in...off now to learn how to view my first set of digital pictures I took yesterday... Mary

Carolyn, my heart goes out to you. It will be nice that your not in cell range for a few yours. You'll hopefully have some piece and Quiet. Get to the bank first thing tomorrow morning or call. Lisa's comment is definately enough to make you concerned.

Today is last day of eating having DH birthday Bar b que at 4. Then tomorrow Mary and I start strict induction. I've put on eough pounds that my bad knee that has been doing so well is starting to bother me. It's a fine line with my weight. I'm trying to put off as long as possible having it replaced

Did not do walking tape today cause of knee flare up.

Talk to all soon.

I'm so happy! I made it through 2 parties today and the most off diet thing I ate was 2 slices of apple with some carmel on it. :D I took my own low carb cheesecake for dessert.

Maybe this will finally be the weekend that I didn't regain everything I've lost over the week! :p

Just me checking in for the weekend...I blew it last night when we went to a theme park, and decided not to eat right. The salad offering seemed unappealing to me, and I went for the burger and fries. Topped off with icecream. I had started the day off good until that, and today did high protein to compensate. We'll see what the scale says in the morning. On a more positive note, my favorite "skinny shorts" are getting loose enough that I want to buy another pair in the next size down!

Nanci RHD congrats on the skinny shorts get big. Isn't it a winderful feeling. I ate like a piggy today at DH BD barbque. Half the time I wasn't hungry I just. Right know I feel bloated and disqusted (sp?)with myself. It's back to strict induction tomorrow I hope. Mary are you with me? Adoptmom very good.

Linda, I'm here and ON TRACK ( only been up for 45 Min:) ). I am determined today. Have my bag for Curves for after work, even tho my back is giving we twinges. Have tuna fish and bringing greens to go along with them for lunch. Having Atkins meatloaf for supper ( I bought a frozen dinner from the site). I have to go shopping after Curves so I wanted a quick meal to prepare for supper.

Nanci, great on the pair of shorts!! you are doing super. Don't kick yourself about the meal. ( Well the french fries, but that was just a poor choice) It was a meal and doesn't sound that terrible to me. You compensated the next day. I'll bet you won't see any bad effects from that.

Tami, Way to go. you are doing great. I hope to join both you and Nancy on some positive reports.

Carolyn is probably off busy with her Mom. I hope she is doing ok.

Now a quick prayer for all of us ...and off to work. Have a great day. :D Mary

I'm very happy today! I didn't gain the 5-7 pounds over the weekend I had been since May. :D Yay me! I did gain 1 1/2 but I'm pretty sure it's PMS so it and some more will be gone in a day or two, no stress.

Tomorrow may be hard because it's my oldest daughter's Gotcha day. 8 year ago today I boarded a plane to LA to go meet her for the first time. I was so excited the next morning that I got up at dawn and went for a run on the streets of LA. She was a little zombie when I met her at customs because in addition to a 24 hour flight she'd been delayed in Bankok for a day because of the Hurricaine which was hitting NYC, where they had been supposed to fly into. Of course the first thing I did was get the two of us whopped by an elevator door. She stuck out her little bottom lip and gave me this look like "oh no! They stuck me with this stupid pale lady! " and then she screamed! :D Poor thing! No wonder she's a Daddy's girl.

Anyway, she has an art class tomorrow and I promised her that we'd go eat Indian food. I love Indian food so I'm going to have to study some of my recipes tonight to figure out what is lower carb in the buffet. Could be scary.

Ok Mary I've been on track all day. I had the guts to get on the scale this am. It was awful. Must be on STRICT induction. How did today go?

Carolyn how are things going?

Tami how old is your daughter? What did you find low card for Indian food?

Well it's 4:46 and I have only had some carb options peanut butter that I shouldn't have had. Am having a good supper, and no further eating. I was food shopping and I was starved so ate some of the peanut butter on the way home. Have chicken and spinich getting ready for supper. For me today has been a success. ( I know peanut butter is not on iduction, but it is allowed on OWL, so I'm really not "cheating" I can rationalize anything. ) Hope everyone else is doing well. Even if you can't read this Carolyn..good luck. Mary
