Another question about Dress Code......

Recommended Posts

The subject of dress code in the dining rooms comes up quite often, and I am not looking to re-hash that subject.

But......does Carnival have a dress code for Ship-wide activities after dinner ? IE Shows, Casino, etc....

Are the opinions as strong as they are about the dress code for dinner ?

thanks,

There will be lots of people who aren't dressed up in the evening. With alternative dining as an option, many people don't dress up at all for formal night. (Some of them still eat in the dining room, but I won't go there! :D ) I sometimes change into comfortable clothes before going to the show.

There was a woman on our recent Pride cruise who lived in her Carnival bathrobe. She wore it everywhere! We saw her at all times of the day and night trotting around in that darn bathrobe. She was NOT using it as a bathingsuit coverup, either. We even noticed her on several occasions in the Taj Mahal at the main shows in her bathrobe!!! Never noticed her in the dining room, though!

My DH was fine for dressing to have dinner in the dining room, but was not about to wear a suit the entire evening while donating to the casino profits. He changed to casual clothes, I did not. To each his own!

I wonder if the bathrobe lady lost her luggage or something??? That might explain it... I mean, why even pack for a cruise if you're going to wear a bathrobe everywhere? :p

On one of our cruises, Legend, it actually said in the capers "please remain in your formal wear throughout the evening". That was the one and ONLY time I've seen that on a cruise. Regardless, we all changed anyhow.

I normally wear a dress to dinner, and if I'm comfortable, I'll keep it on. If it's a dress that is not too comfy then I will change into jeans, etc... You'll see people dressed nicely, and people in jean shorts, it's totally up to you. Just have fun and be comfortable!!!

When we were on the Legend, not only did the Capers request you stay in formal wear the entire evening, the Captain requested it over the speakers! Of course, people still did whatever felt best for them, including us.

The bathrobe lady must have a large family and they were all on a recent Legend sailing. We thought we were witnessing the beginnings of a new fashion trend. We didn't see any jeans in the dining room, but we noticed folks in shorts every night but the formal nights.

Oh my gosh...the bathrobe lady was also on our Glory cruise May 29. I never even tried ON my bathrobe, but seeing as how she enjoyed it eversomuch, I now wish I would have. Wonder if she goes to work in it now? :) Love, juliah

Honestly I think this topic is one that takes on a life of its own only on the boards. I have been on 10 carnival cruises and seen every kind of dress on formal night from completely casual to decked out IN the dining room. I have never once seen anyone turned away from any activity because of dress and I have never once heard anyone ever even comment on the dress code while on board.

I guess my true feelings are that if eveyone was sitting around judging everyone else's clothes the cruise would not be very fun. Do your best to follow the guidelines and go with the flow but don't stress over it too much.

It's kind of like driving on the freeway ... everyone knows the speed limit but in practice everyone goes the speed of traffic which is usually much faster than the speed limit. Now if Carnival ever sets up a 'clothes' trap and hands out tickets then we'll have something to worry about.

No matter what you wear have a great cruise :D

I sure wish we had met on board. I figured we would have ice rinks in common considering our screen names!! Glad we weren't dreaming about the bathrobe lady. She was really a "trip." And it can't have been a matter of lost luggage - not when it went on all week. Did any of you try the lobster in the dining room on formal night? Everyone around us, including our table, sent it back. Wondered if anyone else had the same problem.

I DID notice last cruise - a little blurb in the Capers about the Captain requesting that folks stay in 'formal attire' all evening on formal night. I thought that was a bit unusual, as I've never noticed the request on any previous cruise.

However, it IS formal NIGHT, not just formal dinner. I guess they're trying to carry on the ambiance throughout the evening?

Doesn't matter to me. I think most people do change after dinner. I don't, but that's just me....too much trouble, and I'm comfortable enough in formal wear.:D

I appreciate everyone who responded....I was hoping to not get "flamed"....my wife and I always go back and change for the evening after dinner.....and I was curious if this was as strong a topic as in the dining room.

happy cruising...
