Bob7 Posted May 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2006 We've done both the train and hydrofoil to Sorrento and the hydrofoil is way better, a fast and pretty ride. You can sit on top in the breeze or below in the cabin, size of a large airplane cabin. The train is a $10 cab to get there each way, and no views, just tunnels and back yards. There are several companies running hydrofoils (jet boats), here's the site listing them, and for departure times click on the Timetable button, insert Naples and Sorrento, then reverse to return: http://www.capritourism.com/en/transport.html They leave Naples from the Molo Beverello dock right beside where the cruise ships dock. 12-14 euros. -Bob
shepsm001 Posted May 14, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2006 If you haven't done Pompeii or Herculaneum by all means take the train and then take it on to Sorrento. You can take the hydo foil back to Napoli. Please note buy your ticket to Sorrento at Pompeii or Herculaneum and you will have free public transporation in Sorrento which is certainly worth it since its a long way up and down from the pier. Please note and not to be alarmed to give your self plenty of time to get back to Napoli. The hydrofoil were were originally on lost power and we almost didn't make it back to port! We did catch another but there wasn't much time left!
hylasgirl Posted May 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2006 Question... I have looked up the link for the hydro-foil and got all the times (thank you very much for posting that) but does anyone know if there is anyway to go straight back to Naples after Sorrento? We would like to go from Naples to Capri and then to Sorrento and then back to Naples. Is this possible? Thank you so much for the help.
I&MsMom Posted May 20, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2006 There is a hydrofoil from Sorrento to Naples. You could also take the train, but I understand it is longer and not particularly scenic.
Queenk2 Posted May 21, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 21, 2006 We used a tour guide called Nello. He can be reached at info@drivesorrento. he can give you advice dependent upon what you want to see and even he can reccommend things. Karen
envy4u Posted May 29, 2006 #7 Share Posted May 29, 2006 When you dock in Naples you can walk to the ferries to go to Capri . When you return you can go to Sorrento . I am not sure whether you can take a ferry from Capri to Sorrento. Maybe someone elso would know the answer to that one .
kirky Posted May 29, 2006 #8 Share Posted May 29, 2006 I also would like to take the hydrofoil from Naples to Capri and then to Sorrento. The schedule does not show Sorrento back to Naples. Has anyone ever done this??
Bob7 Posted May 29, 2006 #9 Share Posted May 29, 2006 Yes we took the hydrofoil from Sorrento to Naples, it left about 4 and got back about 4:45.
hylasgirl Posted May 31, 2006 #10 Share Posted May 31, 2006 Thank you so much! That is exactly what I wanted to know. It should be a great way to see both of those places. We loved Sorrento last year.
