CruisinStu Posted May 20, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2006 We just returned from a wonderful Norwegian fjord cruise aboard QM2, and my family used an efficient car service for transfers to and from Gatwick. Five Star Cars, run by Maria Madalena, did a great job. Maria was courteous, helpful, and a very safe driver (and her Mercedes 7-passenger van was clean as a whistle). She is based in Bournemouth just east of Southampton, but she travels regularly to London and its airports for passenger trips. She can be reached via cell phone at (07849) 526 720 or (07738) 533 277 for reservations and information. Hope this helps any interested travelers needing car transfers to or from an upcoming cruise or travel in the Southeast of England. Stu Shapiro PS On arrival in Southampton, even with heavy road traffic on M3, we easily made a 12:00 Noon flight out of LGW. We did 'self-help debarkation' which meant schlepping all our luggage, but we sure beat all the crowds off the ship at 7:45AM.
jschutz Posted May 22, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2006 You forgot to mention the approximate fare she charges - sort of important for most people.
CruisinStu Posted May 22, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted May 22, 2006 Thanks for noticing my obvious omission. The fares charged may vary by time of day and itinerary, which is why I did not post specifics. For our journey from LGW to/from Southampton (during routine weekday hours), the fare was GBP80 each way. But for your specific group, please call Maria to get an exact quote. Having searched the web, this sounded like an extremely reasonable rate, especially when shared by 6 people. It turned out to be far less expensive than any coach or train fare any of us could find. Hope this helps others in their planning. Stu
