Rare Radio Posted June 4, 2006 Author #31 Share Posted June 4, 2006 Hello everyone, so far everything is great. We have the late seating tonight so it will give me a chance to get a little shut eye. We have just passed under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It took us 2 hours from sail away to reach the Bay Bridge. They will be having a Welcome aboard show at 8PM...They will be featuring a Comic, and the R/C Singers and Dancers Also tonight will be the 70's Disco Inferno w/a tribute to ABBA..The CD is Clodough O'Conner. The Captain for this week will be Haakan Admarker. I have sailed out of Baltimore many times, but this must have been the best Sailaway...The weather was beautiful, Sunny, w/no rain. We will have to turn our clocks ahead 1 Hour tonight. I am connecting tonight with my Cellphone which is very fast and will enable me to upload many pics...I should have a signal until late tonight, when I will have to switch to WiFi. I will check back in tonight. Radio Leaving the Port Sunny Sailaway Chesapeake Bay Bridge .

soccermomkat Posted June 5, 2006 #33 Share Posted June 5, 2006 Radio - thanks so much for all you are doing! I didn't think it was possible to be even more excited for my cruise next month, but I think I am!!!:D Wow - great pics - and it WAS a great day in MD and a fantastic day to sail away. Hope the weather stays good for you. We just finished a couple dozen crabs out on the deck - no flies, no heat, perfect! How was embarkation? Did you notice a seperate check in for the suites (I am booked in a jr suite next month and was wondering if I would get that benifit). Were they going through baggage for wine, liquor, etc??? Did anyone come on with a cooler? I want to bring some Fruit 2O's for my kids since they aren't big soda drinkers and don't want to have problems at the port. Can't wait to hear from you again!!! catwoman1 Posted June 5, 2006 #34 Share Posted June 5, 2006 I am booked in a D-1 cabin and am considering upgrading to the Royal Suite or Grand Suite. Is it worth the $$$ as there looks to be no concierge lounge w/ the free drinks! Thanks! I have to make my decision by tomorrow.
LenaDaLlama Posted June 5, 2006 #35 Share Posted June 5, 2006 Wow Radio, the renovations at Port Baltimore look awesome!!!! Glad to see they are taking it serious!! SuzieTrue Posted June 5, 2006 #36 Share Posted June 5, 2006 You have my favorite CD, Clo. How is she doing? Is she taking everyone to Ireland? Remember it is the sea air that makes the dresses shrink.

Kathy Embarkation was flawless....There is a Suites/Diamond/Platinum line , which we entered. There were about 30 check in stations...all with passengers, but no lines anywhere. Mrs Radio asked why there were no Passengers in any line ? We were told that between 1 and 2PM the lines were crazy... gramgill Posted June 5, 2006 #41 Share Posted June 5, 2006 hi Radio, well done and thank you for giving your valuable time to post, i had a couple of questions to ask, you you have already answered one the Cruise director. i got a shock to read that the cruise director was claudia O'Connor (excuse the spelling clo. if your reading) she was our CD on our b2b in January onboard the Explorer and i remember her saying that she was having a holiday in April and didnt know where she would be after. She is RCIs only female cruise director and one of the best, she had us all laughing in our seats with her jokes about hijacking the ship and steering it to her hometown of Ireland and not telling the captain, and when we get to the end of the week we would see ireland not miami, and some of the weather we were getting in the bahamaas i thought we were nearing ireland instead. So you wont be dissapointed. hope shes still ther in 2 weeks. keep us updated about the entertainment, and another couple of silly questions did you notice if the new port at baltimore had a lounge for platinum and diamond members how many laps of running track makes a mile is it 4 or 5 also the gym opens i think at 6 or 6.30am but when i was on the grandeur's sister ship the splendour the saunas and showers didnt open till 8 meaning you had to back to your cabin for shower after your workout, is that still the case. thanks again for the pics and reports
jillybabes Posted June 5, 2006 #42 Share Posted June 5, 2006 Gramgill: Clo is not the only woman CD on RCI. You forgot about Becky Thompson from across the pond, who is on the Mariner:). We also had Jill Trasker on the Grandeur this past January but I hear she has moved over to Holland America...Keep those photos coming Radio...Later, Jill:cool:

ReneeWI Posted June 5, 2006 #44 Share Posted June 5, 2006 I just got off the Grandeur yesterday. Clo the cruise director is pregnant and due Nov 10. She has a 2-month contract as cruise director and I think she's about halfway through that. I'll add some of my thoughts about the cruise in a separate post. Rare TPKeller Posted June 5, 2006 #45 Share Posted June 5, 2006 Our CD on Grandeur last fall was Ashley Kerr, whose name does pop up from time to time on other ships as well. She was definitely not a man! Theron
Rare Radio Posted June 5, 2006 Author #46 Share Posted June 5, 2006 Our CD on Grandeur last fall was Ashley Kerr, whose name does pop up from time to time on other ships as well. She was definitely not a man! Theron Hi Theron...I think Clo' might have been just pleasing the crowd with her comments... : ) It is 6PM right now...I have been very very happy with my connection on Grandeur. It seems to be that all connections with the Internet Café are very slow, and all Connections with WiFi are very fast...You can guess which one I recommend. We are approaching Bermuda at a speed of 22 knots. We should be there before 9AM. We are hoping for the best tomorrow with the weather. Rain or Shine, we will have a good time. My mom and Dad are also on board this week, They will be doing a B2B with the 9 night Caribbean next week. The Ship appears very clean and well kept..as others have said, the only areas that appear to look 10 years old are the Cabins..they appear to be very outdated. The Public areas however are beautful. The Great Gatsby is the best. The Casino Royale wasn't very freindly today...Better luck tomorrow. Lots of passengers were complaining that there were no Penny machines...Lot of people were winning jackpots at the Dollar Slots. The Captains reception is tonight, and tonight will be Formal Night. The RCI Production Show is tonight (Rhythm and Rhyme)...My wife and mom have signed up for Spa treatments on Thursday. We will most likely take the Ferry over to Hamilton in the morning. We may rent scooters over there, and visit a few beaches. There will be a Street Festival at the Dockyard tomorrow night. More tomorrow......Here are a few more pics... Radio OceanView Cabin Deck 4 . divaofdisney Posted June 5, 2006 #47 Share Posted June 5, 2006 Radio- Clo was the cruise director when we cruised on the Explorer this past December and she was absolutely terrific. I never laughed so hard in all my life I almost wet myself lol!! You are so lucky to have her. I will really miss her when she leaves to have the baby. We are considering the granduer next year when my daughter graduates from high school- can you please tell me how she is looking? Also, do they have a concierge?? If not are they planning on having one in the future?? I am just trying to decide what would be the most econimical for our family of 4. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to reading more of your posts.;)

HurricaneSally Posted June 5, 2006 #50 Share Posted June 5, 2006 I loved the Granduer. We did an 11 night circle the Caribbean on her in 2001. It was great. Those beds look so inviting though, even if the room is dated.
