RCCL Credit Card Points

Recommended Posts

My family and I are booked on the Freedom next April. We did so yesterday! (yippie!!). Has anyone used your rcl credit card points on a guarantee cabin (all that was left)? When speaking with the brain trust at RCL, they stated you must have a cabin assignment to cash in the certificate. We are already booked in a balcony room. The certificate entitles you to a balcony cabin at oceanview pricing.

Just looking for any past experiences.

Thanks

Good question, I hope someone can tell you. We are trying to decide how best to use our points also. We could get the free 4 nt. cruise, but that is too short. The upgrade at 25,000 pts. seems like a better deal and save the rest of the points for later.

Here's the scoop... directly from the RCCL Visa Redemption Terms...

"The guest can upgrade from, but cannot upgrade to any stateroom to which a "Guarantee rate" applies"

It certainly doesn't hurt to try to use your points... it sounds like they sometimes allow you to use them contrary to their own rules.... I wouldn't count on it though...

The upgrade may not be the best deal anyway. I just looked at an April 2008 Freedomn sailing (don't know if it is yours but to get an idea) and aBalcony guarantee was $1249 and highest oceanview (cat F) was $1169. This would be a savings of $80 PP ($160 total). You can get 5 5,000 point certificates and use them for $250 onboard credit (they will accept mutiple certificates for onboard credit on a cruise) We did the onboard certificates on the Mariner last year for this exact reason - more savings than the upgrade.

Enjoy your cruise.

much more than the upgrades since they seem to be inside to a better inside or oceanview to a better oceanview but not to a balcony. Even the free cruise for 250,000 isn't worth it as I'd want the $2500. I am a D1 & sometimes a JS if the rate is under $300 total for the JS from the D1. We love going to the casino for $200-$800 on a cruise from VISA.

Too bad MBNA & B of A have made bad tasts in folks mouth cancelling the extended warranty on large purchase items. So that goes to AMEX who had great coverage.

I asked this question a while back. I wanted to use my 20,000 points to get 4 certificates for $200 in onboard credits, but didn't think that I could get more than one of the certificates at a time. Have you done this before? Did it work?

Sure have! I requested 5 of the 5,000 pts. on our last cruise. On back of the certificate is a list of choices, all you have to do is check which one you want. We elected to use 4 of the certificates for $200 and one for the robes. Be sure to make a copy of the certificates before you mail them off in case they get lost in the mail so you will have proof.

Thanks so much for the reply! :) This might be a silly question...but here goes. Do you get to keep the robes or are they only for use during the cruise?

The robes that you order from the cruise points are yours to keep. They are given to you onboard.

The regular robes that you use onboard are only for use onboard and must be bought if you would like to take them home.

Once you have requested the vouchers, how long does it take to get them? We will be on Jewel in December and want to make sure I do this early enough. Thanks.:)

It takes 6-8 weeks to get the certificates.

Wrong. Where did you get that idea? Along with the robes is a paper telling you how they'll cost you if they are missing at the end of the cruise.

The robes in question are those recieved with the points from the MBNA credit card.... they are yours to keep.

SO, it's 1 dollar for every dollar on the card and double for RCCL purchases. How many points does one have to acquire to receive what amount of onboard credits?

If you will look at my reply #15 above, you will see the entire listing. Basically you get $50 for each 5,000 pts. if you want onboard credit and you can use multiple credits on a cruise. Really nice for the onboard purchases, tips, etc. And, if you have more credit than you can use, just go to the casino and take out the extra money.

You'll have to create an on-line account, but then you just log in and go to your statements on-line and your points appear on the last page of your statement- just like the hard copy statement you receive in the mail.
