lysolqn Posted July 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2006 For Princess passengers who've boarded in Whittier, what kind of town is it (anything worth seeing or doing there?) and how was your boarding experience?
Chenega Posted July 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2006 The only thing worth your time in Whittier are the day cruises into Prince William Sound offered by various tour operators. The rest of the town can be see in under an hour.
Suzanne123 Posted July 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2006 There's not much to the "town", but if you have the time, check in at the dock and head for one of the glacier cruises leaving from Whittier. We used a 2 for 1 coupon in the Toursaver Book and took the Glacier Adventure cruise from PWS. http://www.princewilliamsound.com/580.cfm I was so glad we did this, as our Kenai fjords tour was cut short due to bad weather, and we saw more wildlife on the glacier cruise than we did at Kenai. Also, the cruise was absolutely smooth so if you have a concern with seasickness, this is the cruise for you! Lunch (halibut, chicken or vegetarian) was small, but they do have fabulous hot chocolate chip cookies and free coffee, hot chocolate and lemonade throughout the cruise. There were only 16 people on a very large boat. Would definitely recommend.

We drove to the princess dock.. dropped off luggage.. went to get gas for the car.. dropped off car.. walked back to the pier.. checked in.. took about 35 minutes before we were in our room, with luggage waiting at our door Jim
Budget Queen Posted July 3, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2006 I too highly recommend the independent glacier boat tours. Superior to anything you will see from your ship. :) Especially in Alaska I am never in a rush to get on the ship, there is plenty of wonderful touring to consider.
