JerryK13 Posted July 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2006 We just returned from a wonderful cruise :) on the Carnival Conquest out of Galveston on June 25th and found out on our way back to our car that the parking situation may be changing there. Apparently, a tariff was passed many months ago that charges taxis/limos/buses $10 PER ENTRY  into the port area, but they haven't been enforcing the charge -- until last week. The smaller independent lots like Lighthouse and EZCruise that charge $50-55 feel the tariff was passed to put them out of business. In any case, the one we used (Lighthouse) had a notice posted in the bus that due to this charge they won't make a trip to/from the port until at least 1/2 the bus is full. Another option will likely be to raise prices to pass the tariff onto passengers. We've always found Galveston very easy to get into and out of at reasonable prices. Another few bucks won't discourage us from sailing out of Galveston, but the routine is being disrupted. :(
yst347 Posted July 4, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2006 I'd be happy if they just charged a shuttle fee. EZ-cruise is so close I just drop-off my wife and the luggage at the pier and then drive to EZ-cruise and walk back. When we return I walk over and get the car and drive around. My wife finds a porter and gets the bags through customs and meets me at the curb.
