mjbelen Posted July 29, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2006 We are considering booking on the Legend and had concerns about booking an ocean view cabin. Looking the deck plans they are all located on the Riviera deck. This is under the Promenade deck, so I was wondering if you can hear the noise from the casino, clubs, etc. which are on on the deck above. Is there also a lot of vibration and engine noise on this deck as it is so low. Another option we are considering is a Cat 5A-obstructed view, which is located on a higher deck. I would love to hear from anyone who stayed in one of these cabins, about the pros and cons of booking this category. Thanks! Joan
Crazy about cruising Posted July 29, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2006 My sister and I stayed in an OV on the Riviera deck on the Legend last year. We didn't notice any noise from any of the clubs. Our cabin was midship. We did hear people walking above us. We really only noticed it after the shows ended in the Follies lounge. We kept wondering the that clicking sound from the ceiling was. Then we realized it was high heals walking along the Promenade deck.
Guest LetMeGo Posted July 29, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2006 Hi From a technical viewpoint there should be no problems with your cabin on the Riviera deck. The sound insulation between decks is better than the one between the cabin and corridor. Also there's one whole deck between the Riviera deck and the engine room (which isn't that vibrating in the first place because of the azipod drive) If you want to make sure you can avoid as much noise as possible, try to get a cabin which is about 2/3 of the way from the ships back, between the forward two elevator banks... It's relatively far away from the lounge, galley, and engine room, and there's less noise from the corridors. If you compare the deck plans carefully, you could pick a cabin below the (shore tours) office or the small lobby on the other side of the ship. I can't really help with the cabins since I've never cruised myself... :D
Leo Jay Posted July 29, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2006 We were on this deck last year, and it was great. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I had no awareness at all of traffic above us -- I think at most you'd probably notice it only for a few minutes, and only if your cabin was in that area and you happened to be in it at the time a show was ending. Our cabin was midship anyway -- 1310. I never even realized Riviera was the only OV deck on Triumph. Loved it -- the water's right outside your window! serene56 Posted July 29, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2006 we had cabin 1211 on the LEgend. Was very impressed with hearing no sounds until we opened the cabin door. Even if standing outside the disco you cant hear anything until you go through the revolving doors and it is quite loud. I think Carnival did an excellent job with the soundproofing on this class of ship.

mjbelen Posted July 29, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted July 29, 2006 Debbie, Thanks for the info on the 5A. Looks like other passengers can walk outside the cabin on the Promenade deck, so that would not be a good choice of cabin for me. I'm glad to hear the Riveria deck is quieter that I had expected. Since there are so few ocean view cabins, I wonder if I gamble and take a ocean view guarantee if I will be upgraded to a balcony. Joan
Guest LetMeGo Posted July 29, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 29, 2006 Thanks for the info on the 5A. Looks like other passengers can walk outside the cabin on the Promenade deck, so that would not be a good choice of cabin for me. I just wanted to correct this... The promenade deck on Legend is deck 3, which only has public areas like restaurant, libraries, bars etc. The obstructed view cabins are on decks 4 & 5. serene56 Posted July 29, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 29, 2006 a 5A on the spirit class ship open up to the lifeboats. You can open the doors for fresh air in some cabins.. but there is a drop off so people with kids should not book this cabin. People can not walk outside the 5As on this class but workers have been known to do work on the lifeboats while in ports.
