What are your NCL Traditions???

After scouting out all the online pictures we will pick an obscure thing (painting/a certain window/statuette on a stairwell) and then have fun being the first in our group to find the item "for real" once we board the ship. It adds to the fun we had researching the cruise on line at home.

Never thought of that one... I think we will have to try that, Like a mini scavenger hunt... CUTE!

We have been on 11 NCL cruises and have developed a few NCL traditions:

1) Our children were all souvenirs of cruises....after the twins we started bringing them all with us on subsequent cruises and thus ended THAT tradition

2) We cruised the Norway 7 times, 5 times with our 3 children- I have 5 group pictures of the kids with Mom on Sky deck in Miami with everyone standing in the same place each time with the same background. Fun to watch how everyone changed year to year. The pics are priceless now.

3) I always take home my "do not disturb" sign

4) I always spend at least one afternoon on promenade deck, just watching the sea sail by.

5) We always take a few family walks around promenade deck before or after dinner. Amazing how we so few people on the promenade.

6) Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we set our alarm at 7 am for every morning and then we go to the pool deck and put as many towels and personal items that we can find on numerous lounge chairs to reserve them. Then we go back to bed. Later around noon we come back and count how many have not been disturbed.

oh...ok, the last one is fake, but I bet it got your blood boiling!

You definitly got me on that one... I was fuming. I didn't notice the "it was fake" part till several hours later when I came back to read the rest of the posts.

I also like to bring back (this is not stealing you understand) a fruit juice glass. They are really cute. These would be the things we always do, others are important but not musts.NMNita

Nita, Isn't DH a JUDGE???? Don't worry.....you are so important to this board that we would have bail money in no time flat! (unless of course we had to downgrade from a balcony:D )

1. Every morning i allow my wife to sleep in and then deliver a plate of fruit and a thermas of hot water (bring our own tea bags) so as to make up for her missing Good Morning America (Charley fan)

2. As some, collect as many colors of the specialty glasses as we can before they're scoffed up by the waiters.. ( a great thing to pull out during a winter party with the tiny umbrellas).

3. Prior to sailing, perform a walk thru the casino, to decide which one i hit as soon as we sail... :)

4. Ash trays...

5. Make three reservations at the Bistro....

6. Finally (especially on the Majesty)... take pics of us and the crew we have sailed with time after time after time. (there's a deck waiter we call Yummy Yummy who we've bounced into on several of the Norwegian ships) and somehow he always manages to remember our names! (just like you can probably tell me who your first waiter and busboy were).

pretty neat we can all have these traditions and memories..

My wife loves to take pictures of the cabin b4 it gets messed up.

We always have a champagne toast on the balcony as the ship first leaves port of embarcation.

I go to the casino and pick-up any good vibrations from the slot machines.

We window shop in the galleria.

These are just a few, I can go on for awhile, but these are our favorites.

1) I'm going to take my Fart Machine on the lifeboat drill. Not sure how each ship does lifeboat drills, but with the Majesty, we stood next to our assigned lifeboats, PACKED IN TIGHT, while the leader took roll call and coached us what to do, and then we JUST STOOD THERE, PACKED IN TIGHT, freezing, since it was November, until everybody showed up.

Let's see how quickly I can break up a crowd! :D

2) If LeBistro has the All You Can Eat sushi special again, hubby will munch sushi and smoke his Cuban cigar topside. (In Charleston you can buy legal Cuban cigars at The TinderBox. They are pre-embargo).

Amazing, I'd love to see it.

Hey I do have a question though, do the waiters care if you snatch up the specialty glasses?

 Thanks for sharing.

Seriously, though, there was another family on board that brought one of those, and they hid it outside the dining rooms and in flower pots near the stairwells. It was funnier than heck to watch everybody's reactions, especially the crew! One Indonesian steward found it, picked it up, just sort of stared at it while it was still going BLAAAAAAAT, cleaned it, put it back and walked on his way. Everybody was almost hysterical. The bartender almost had an accident! Best entertainment you can have while stuck on a ship.

Mny of the same for me but things that stick out.

1) Arrive at the peir and get on the ship early.

2) Have lunch in the dining room.

3) Go on a picture taking mission before the ships gets crowded, have to get pictures of the cabin beofre it gets messed up as someone else posted.

4) Must attend the martini and margarita tastings or clinics.

5)Take a picture with the top of my feet in the picture of my view at the time.

I could go on and on but I have to get back to work. This is fun reading what everyone likes to do.

On all cruises -

Stop at Taco Cabana on the way to and from the ship and have their red cheese enchiladas... :)

Have at least one Bloody Mary on board - they always make them well on cruises and usually have specials in the morning.

Magnents of ship and ports to bring home...

I have a bunch of Dailies stacked up (or filed away) from all our trips..

On NCL -

Have a Margarita! They make great margaritas and we like to have them when they have it as the special and serve it in the Souvenier glass... :)

Not really a tradition, but I usually buy a tee with the ships logo, a collectible spoon, and we've started Christmas Ornaments as well. jSave's me a few bucks to sail the same ship multiple times ;)

  • 3 months later...

I always buy a coffe mug of the ship. Reminds me of the ships when I'm home.

I also save all the mints, but I bring them home and dole them out to myself to try to extend the vacation mode.:D

Another thing we do is if we're on board early or on the last morning, we walk around and try to peek in at the different suites to see what they look like.:)
