Hotel Vin del Mar

Recommended Posts

We plan on splurging and staying at the Vina del Mar hotel and casino. However, they have yet to post their rates for the new season.

The Oceanic has been recommended on the old board, but it is a bit of a walk to the city center.

We stayed here in Feb. It was quite pleasant but nothing special. People were very, very nice and the breakfast was good. I think we paid about $100 a night which we thought was reasonable.

Correct. Their address is 199 AV San Martin.

Here is a good link , if you haven't already seen it.

Our man in Santiago liked the Oceanic, but conceded it is somewhat by itself. He also mentioned as possibilitities the Alcazar and Marina del Rey (which is a Best Western hotel). Both Are Chilean 4* Hotels. If the del Mar doesn't work out we are thinking about the Marina del Rey.

We stayed in Vina del Mar for one night in 2000 before embarking on a cruise. Just don't stay at the O'Higgins Hotel. It was right out of the movie the Shining plus it didn't have any air conditioning. To reach the nicer areas with beaches, you have to drive pretty far out of the main area. We found that as a resort area, it mainly catered to locals. We were sorry we didn't stay in Santiago for another night.

Sheeng --Thanks for the info on Monterilla. I was thinking of staying there for a few nights and doing out-tours from there ( golf, wine country, etc...). Is it close to the casino ? Overall how would you rate it, I saw it as a smaller botiqueish hotel, kind of quaint, not to chain-ish". ???

Thanks...

The hotel is only a block or so away from the casino. The location is very good. Clean and safe and you can walk anywhere in town from here. It's not on the ocean but only a couple of blocks away. It is not at all "chain-ish". It is small ( no elevators ) and rather modern. Sort of Danish/Ikea-ish. Nothing really quaint about it but as I said, they were very nice and we did enjoy our stay there. Hope this helps.

Sheeng - Thanks for info - how many floors do they have ---not to fond of lugging 3 weeks worth of luggage up to many flights of stairs - Thanks, again Jack

Jack - There were I believe 3 floors. They carried the luggage up for us. We arrived around noon and the room was not ready so we went for lunch and when we returned it was all in our room. There was help available when the 4 or 5 other couples on our cruise checked out.

We will be staying at the Marina del Rey on Sat night Jan. 15th - the pictures of this hotel do not look so great - the price is right - it's only one night - I'll let everyone know on our return - If anyone has stayed there in the past - let us know what your experience was.

Smooth Sailing - We're currently booked in same hotel Jan 1-4, it's a Best Western so I guess you can't be to bad off, however I think it's more of a businessman's hotel. That's why I posted this question---looking for something better with a little more "flavor" . Hope the info posted by others helps--JWC
