ILoveScotland Posted August 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2006 DH and I have just booked the Summit for the Southern Caribbean in January, 2008. We're still learning about various ships and know nothing about the Summit. So, what can anyone tell me? We'll have an oceanview on one of the lower decks which is okay since only one sea day. Questions include: Size of cabins, friendliness of crew, quality of food, entertainment, and anything else someone can think of that a first timer on the Summit would want to know. Thanks a bunch. Sillyjilly Posted August 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2006 The crew was one of the friendliest I have ever encountered. Food was very good. I loved the Summit and it's kooky art. There is something to find in every nook and cranny. The rooms have plenty of closet and drawer space. We had an inside so I'm not sure if you'll have a shower & a bath. We had a shower. There is a fridge stocked with booze and soda. You can have it removed if you want to put your own items in. I wouldn't call the room spacious, but it is perfect for 2 people. Our teen travelled with us and it can get very cramped because the pull out couch blocks the bathroom in the evenings. Still, I'd do it again.:D Happy Sailing! ltdedorc Posted August 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2006 We enjoyed our cruise on the Summit and here are some hilites: 1. Cruise Director, John Howell 2. Main dining Room overall menu except the anytime sirloin steak which was tough and the salmon selections were farm raised not wild salmon. If you like crumbled blue cheese with your dressing, just ask. The free anniversay/special occasion cake is ok but then you don't get to choose from the wide choices on the dinner menu 3. Breakfasts at the Aquaspa cafe at the T... pool for healthier selections, supplemented by a hot almond &/or chocolate croissant from the Cova Cafe. 4. Pizza station, waffle station, sushi bar & occcasional hambuger. Enjoyed the vegetarian pizza with cold toppings added than the precooked say combo ones. Thee individual pizzas made to order had too much crust 5. T... pool Have a great trip, i know we did...Harvey:)

She was EXTREMELY political about this issue, and I can't imagine that she would lie about such a thing, or that she would be misled by them if they were lying... I believe they serve wild salmon... I loved the ship and nearly all the crew. I wrote an extremely lengthy review in the "Member Reviews" section if anybody is interested.
trustee55 Posted August 16, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2006 Hi! We spent 15 days in the Summt to Hawaii this past April and May and our whole experience was PERFECT! Kathie44 Posted August 16, 2006 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2006 Summit in Alaska in 8/03 was our first Celebrity cruise and we loved it. Everything was wonderful--food, entertainment, activities, excursions, service and the ship itself. We didn't know if we'd like another ship as much as the Explorer, the ship of our first two cruises, but Summit was great and since then we've sailed 3 other ships and have loved them all. I will say our Alaska cruise was the only one we were eager to return from, but only because our daughter delivered her baby boy almost a month early while we were in Fairbanks on the last night of the land tour. Our son-in-law picked us up at the airport 3 years ago tonight and I literally RAN from the driveway into their house to get my first look at him, a week old already! When booking our Panama Canal cruise, I made sure it was almost a month after another grandbaby's due date. :D 1/02 Explorer E. Carib. 1/03 Explorer W. motherchic Posted August 16, 2006 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2006 sailed the Summit twice and absolutely loved it. We are cruising on her again for two weeks in Feb. Last time we had a balcony, this next one will be a real splurge, for us- we are getting an aft, balcony CC. We have not cruised very often, actually just a vacation is a treat, maybe thats why when i was on this ship i thought it was pure wonderful. Sometimes i would laugh to myself seeing fellow cruisers complaining about the smallest infractions. And when i would see this i would always think to myself that i hope that i never ever , hit that point in my life , where i dont enjoy such luxuries and blessings. ( I am a mom of four )I love the dining room experience and being taken care of and pampered. The food was very good. We liked the late dining, so we could enjoy the thallo pool after an excursion, the sushi bar and a martini. The decor is eclectic to say the least. It kind of grew on me. I thought the ship was very clean and the service impecable. The rooms are small but cleverly adequate The staff ALWAYS has a smile for you Things to try : -champagne when you first board the ship -if you can, treat yourself to a spa treatment -first day is a martini tasting, -afternoon tea -aqua spa cafe -thallo pool -evening entertainment ( some very good, some ugh! ) -cinema -homemade ice cream - breakfast at the far aft of the ship ( try the waffles ) -sushi bar -casino -afternoon trivia - a quiet spot to just enjoy the beautiful view Hope you have a wonderful cruise. The Mommy Posted August 16, 2006 #8 Share Posted August 16, 2006 I have enjoyed reading these comments about Summit. We have just booked for Hawaii in April 2007 and would love to hear about the Summit and Hawaii. We travelled on Zenith last year and are hoping that this cruise is wonderful for us. shofer Posted August 17, 2006 #9 Share Posted August 17, 2006 We also were on Summit twice, both times to Hawaii. I have reviews in the Ships reviews sections on both trips. Before we were even off the last time in January, my DH was already saying we had to come back one more time. They have changed the itinerary from when we went and I think that is in response to what the passengers want, i.e. more time in Maui and Honolulu. Look for Mr. "Happy-Happy" security guard when you are arriving and leaving the ship. Also the young man greeting you when you are entering the Buffet area. Keep your eyes peeled for the huge sticky cinnamon buns in the morning, they go very quickly. I wish I was going again very soon.
