Name your favorite ports & explain why!!!

I'm torn between Barcelona (for all the fabulous Gaudi architecture) and St. Petersburg (for the history, the palaces, the churches, the Hermitage).

I think I will say Stockholm. What an absolutely beautiful amazing place. Though I think Seward would be a close second with the Kenai Fjords tour

I would say Santorini .. but there is no port .. the most exciting city (for me) to sail into is Istanbul .. It is like a shining jewel that seemingly comes out of nowhere after the journey through the Dardanelles. I have ended a cruise there and started a cruise there .. and I would go back on a moments notice !!

My favourites:

 

Mumbai: Nothing beats the "Gate of India"

 

Sydney: What San Francisco wanted to be but never quite made it.

 

Hong Kong: It stinks - but it's beautiful.

 

Odessa: The Odessa Steps are as breathtaking as the writers claim.

 

Villefranche: The quintessential Mediterranean Port.

 

Komodo Island: You expect King Kong to appear any minute.

 

Helsinki: The classic European Port.

Sitka, Alaska - the Russian History/the Native History/the American History all rolled into one port. It was fantastic. And the scenery is breathtaking.

 

Victoria, Canada - Again the History of Canada is depicted. The Totems, the Empress Hotel, the Fisguard Lighthouse (first lighthouse on Western Canada) , Fort Rudd (old military fort), Craigdarroch Castle in almost downtown Victoria. And of course Butchart Gardens is a must see, so hard to believe they started from an unsightly quarry.:p

I haven't cruised Europe (yet!), so far, my favorite is Kauai, Hawaii, I just love that island. Sitka was very beautiful as well.

Sydney, Australia - how can you not love it? It's clean, the people are beyond friendly, and they speak almost the same language we do. I fell in love with it instantly.

Dominica - very beautiful rainforest island with fantastic diving, friendly people, waterfalls and more... It is the one port I could go and stay for a week or more.

Wow I need to get out there and travel the world if I only had the time and money.

 

Of the very few ports we have been too:

 

Grand Cayman - too crowded.

Cozumel - New pier is away from town so you have to cab it to town

Ocho Rios - Not bad at all. Places to walk to and party at the peir. Cabbies but the crap out of you though.
