june2pm Posted September 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2006 :o Hello, Can anyone advise us how to get from Rome to Civitavecchia and to the port where Concordia is? We're sailing from Civitavecchia to Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tunisia and Malta. What tours are good to take, your experiences, comments, etc. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from anyone. UMASSJAG Posted September 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2006 Check out the Italian train system website. It is pretty easy to use and costs about 9 euros to take the train from Rome to the port. www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html :D
june2pm Posted September 7, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted September 7, 2006 Thanks UMASSJAG for your reply. I appreciate it. Is it pretty easy to locate your ship? Have you gone on Concordia & if you have any tips, advises, etc.? Thanks again.
xewki Posted September 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2006 On the 29th September I will be boarding on your same cruise from Malta. If you want any information about Malta or Palermo, I can give you lots. On your part on ythe cruise, you might guide me as to the other cities, which I will be visiting after you. june2pm Posted September 7, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted September 7, 2006 Hi xewki, I did not know that you can board anywhere besides Civitavecchia. That will be great if you can give me information about Malta & Palermo as I have not done any homework aside from booking the cruise. Sure, I'll give you info about the other cities and about Concordia. It does not sound like anybody has been on it yet. Do you have an email address that I can send you info about the cruise in case I cannot access this website? Thanks.
UMASSJAG Posted September 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2006 June2pm, I have not been on the Concordia (don't go until next April) but I have been doing a lot of research. Look forward to hearing about your trip. Not sure where the boat is but it can be fairly distant from the train station (i.e., Princess ship 4 miles away) . I heard there is a shuttle from the boats to the train station. Maybe someone else knows more about that. :D

Shelledpea Posted September 9, 2006 #11 Share Posted September 9, 2006 Cheers June2pm, Am looking forward to a first hand review. Hope you enjoy yourselves ~ if you hit katakolon the best beaches are to right of the docks we made the mistake of going left and all there is is a 25mtr strip of pebbles, to the left though are about 4km of good sandy beaches. PS The anemones are edible that are all over the harbour walls & steps you just have to know how to go about them!! Shelley

How do you like Costa since you have taken all your cruises from them. I assume a lot of Italians will be on the cruise. Will they be friendly and helpful like you to Americans? Thanks again. Thanks!:) Yes, Costa, in my opinion, is the best...i love their ships...Classica was my first cruise, and i love it...and a girl, too:D :D ! After three times on Classica, i like very very very very...much cruising with them!! Many italians are like me, many aren't like me...but, all italians if they want can be the most helpful in the world...if they want! I hopefully that you can understand my opinion, sorry if i don't write a perfect english..:o :) Hi. P.S. Do you know "Silvio Berlusconi" the ex-first minister of our governement until April 2006, he's coming several times in U.S.A....when he was young, he worked for Costa Cruise like a singer!!! I cannot believe when i read it on internet!!!
june2pm Posted September 15, 2006 Author #13 Share Posted September 15, 2006 Hello Shelled Pea, Thanks for the info about Katakolon. Will something happen to you if you step on the anemones like a poison ivy? I'll definitely do a daily review if I could while on the cruise. Thanks. june2pm Posted September 15, 2006 Author #14 Share Posted September 15, 2006 Hello Italian Cruise Man, I am glad to hear that Costa is good. Since it's a new ship, hopefully, everything will be great. I look forward to meeting Italians on the cruise. Hopefully, they are nice like you. By the way, I don't know Silvio. Was he a good minister? Since he was a working man, hopefully he did a lot for the working people of your country. Ciao.

xewki Posted September 15, 2006 #16 Share Posted September 15, 2006 Who was a workingman Silvio Berlusconi? That is the joke of the century. He is a true and proper model of how a capitilist could be! HA HA.

ItalianGuest Posted September 16, 2006 #19 Share Posted September 16, 2006 I am wondering if Silvio is maybe the owner of Costa.... No, he isn't the owner of Costa. But he has the same spirit: funny but in the same breath serious and careful to his "guests" ( the Italians ) ! However, sooner or later, I'm sure, he will launch a own Cruise Line ... It's the unique thing that he still hasn't got!!! :D

june2pm Posted September 19, 2006 Author #22 Share Posted September 19, 2006 Hi Italian Man, I noticed that you went to the same itinerary twice- Italy, Tunisia, Spain,France. Which excursion would you recommend in Tunisia? We're thinking of going to the Carthage. Also, after the cruise, we are going to Naples, any hotels that you would recommend? Thanks. PS. How's Silvio's football team, are they any good?

How's Silvio's football team, are they any good? Yes, i've done that cruise three times, on Costa Classica in 1999, Costa Victoria 2002 and Costa Fortuna 2005...In Tunisia i disembarked only the first time, in 1999...the other 2 times i stayed on the ship...In 1999 i did the exursion: "Panoramic tour of Tunis and shopping"...i think that if you like to going to see the old Carthage the best excursion is "Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said"....Sorry, but for Naples i can't help you:o ...i don't like and don't know very well this city, only an excursion with Costa and with police that have escorted us around this city! Many people loves Naples, many hate (i'm one of them):) :) Milan:D is Silvio's football team and they are my favoricte team! We've won the Champions League in Manchester in 2003:D
june2pm Posted September 20, 2006 Author #24 Share Posted September 20, 2006 Is it that bad in Naples that you have to be escorted by police? I hope not. We are going to Pompeii the next day and fly to Catania. We're staying there for the rest of the week. Well, it's been a pleasure corresponding with you and hope to bump in to you somehow in Italy. Ciao.
