jp2001 Posted September 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2006 Hi! I'm in the process of booking my first solo cruise, I found a bargain on NCL Spirit (355$ for 6 Night Bahamas Cruise - NY roundtrip). I only hope it's not a computer glitch because NCL is NOT known for waiving the single supplement as it is quoted on the TA website. Now, I need to ask my time off to my boss (I have 4 weeks of paid pre-scheduled vacation per year but I'm not supposed to take a week off in the middle of the year. Obviously, they wouldn't pay me and it's OK, I just need their blessing for a week out of the office). He's in meeting right now, I can't wait to get his answer!!!! My boyfriend is not coming with me, he cannot get the time off but he said he's OK with that if I decide to go by myself (really, he has nothing to worry about, I love him so much, I would never do something unfair to him). MsAbs Posted September 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2006 I went on my first solo cruise in Dec 2004. My (now ex) bf couldn't go, but I decided to go anyway. I was wonderful. I enjoyed the time to myself, and met a bunch of new friends as well. They sat me at a table with mother/daughter, two other women who were traveling solo, and a gentle man who was a retired Navy. The two solo women and I went shopping together in Freeport. I'm leaving in 2 wks for my second solo cruise on the Carnival Elation. I've got major precruiseitus. So I'd say go for it...
NJDragonLady Posted September 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2006 I'm heading on my first cruise in 6 weeks. I booked it through a singles group (since it's my first time I thought it would be just easier to have someone else handle all the paperwork). I'm already looking for my next cruise, solo again, for the spring. I'm so excited...it's all I think about!! :D I hope you get the go-ahead from your boss and you have a great time!! After going onto the roll-call for my trip, I already feel like I know so many people and I am not nervous because I already have 'friends' going with me!! Enjoy!! ladysail2 Posted September 15, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2006 Congratulations jp2001. You will have a wonderful time. NCL is great for seating singles with singles. You will meet wonderful people. That was a great price, too. I just booked a Carnival cruise today as well....the website wouldn't let me book...so I had to phone...glad I did. The cruise now costs me over $400 less! Can't go wrong with that. Enjoy your cruise!

CaliforniaDreamer Posted September 16, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2006 that's a fantastic special on the Spirit. carnival has some amazing solo bargains now, however, i have been booked on the NCL Wind 9/27 since feb. i snagged it's only single cabin so i didnt have to pay double. i am glad NCL still has some rock bottom deals available. hope i find one again to match the $535 Balcony i got on the Star to Alaska in 2005. someday! gxchan Posted September 16, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2006 JP, Beth and Dragon Lady, Congratulations on your first solo cruises!! Way to go! You will have such a great time. We want details when you return! Cal Dreamer, $535 for a balcony to Alaska! Now, you got the deal of a lifetime! Good on you! I paid almost 4x that for my Alaska cruise last summer, outside superior cabin, solo. I would be jealous but I had such a wonderful time it was worth every penny. :D
kathy32259 Posted September 16, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 16, 2006 Me too! My first true solo is coming up in October. Ladysail - you are right - Carnival has some great pricing right now. Which ship did you choose? There is no one on the roll call for my sailing, so my first solo and no CC friends as well!

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I travel on business alone all the time - but this feels so different. I am sure that after my first solo I will be fine. My major concern is that I really want to go to the Atlantis on Paradise Island and I am somewhat concerned about taking a cab alone. But maybe I will get over it before I get there! ;) Key West is Florida - so it will be like home....:)
MsAbs Posted September 16, 2006 #12 Share Posted September 16, 2006 Congrats! You won't regret it! After this Spring when my car got totaled by a semi-truck, I decided life is too short to miss out on the things you enjoy waiting on other people. Hope you have a wonderful cruise! :)

As for going to Atlantis...you don't need a cab. Unless I am totally wrong, the last time I went to Nassau there was ferry on the dock (after you get off the ship). It was 3.00 each way and many other people were on it too! Are we talking about the same Atlantis?
kathy32259 Posted September 17, 2006 #14 Share Posted September 17, 2006 Hi Kathy:) does your sailing have a roll call? That is a good way to meet other people. As for going to Atlantis...you don't need a cab. Unless I am totally wrong, the last time I went to Nassau there was ferry on the dock (after you get off the ship). It was 3.00 each way and many other people were on it too! Are we talking about the same Atlantis? No roll call on this sailing. I was surprised. But then again, I posted a roll call for my 12/30 sailing and so far only one other CC member has posted for that one too..... Wasn't sure if it was me :p .... Yes, we are talking about the same Atlantis. I am familiar with the ferry - it is usually soooo crowded. I may consider it though, maybe if I wait awhile there won't be so many people on it. I was considering the Discover Atlantis and Harbor cruise excursion $54 - until I found out on the Ports of Call board that it is the ferry ($3) and the same tour I took at Atlantis ($29) in July. When I was there in July, we visited Atlantis and toured the digs, etc. This time I would like to play in the casino for a little bit. Then I will just head back to the ship - so the ferry might be my best option! Those cab drivers can be scarry!

luvcruzing Posted October 5, 2006 #20 Share Posted October 5, 2006 Nice review, Julie. Sounds like you had a wonderful time and met some nice people, too. NCL is not my cruise company of choice, but I was especially sorry to read that your cabin was not cleaned properly. I would probably have done exactly as you did and just taken care of things myself, but it still shouldn't have happened.
jp2001 Posted October 5, 2006 Author #21 Share Posted October 5, 2006 If I had said something about the room not being cleaned properly (though sink, toilet and the room itself was always cleaned), maybe things would have been done better after but I didn't bother to complaint. I can tell you that NCL as a whole is not known for unclean staterooms, I think I just got a lazy steward and it was definitely not the norm for the crew, most of them were just amazing, hard working people and always smiling (what my room steward was not, maybe he was having some type of problem).
