jetskier Posted September 21, 2006 #28 Share Posted September 21, 2006 Thanks Fred. What I was wondering is who is the sea miles company. (The one you call to apply your miles with) Luanne The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sea Miles is Mr. Steven Wise. Mr. Wise is also Chairman and CEO of KRG Insurance Group, one of Canada's leading property casualty and benefits brokers. The President of Sea Miles is Mr. Stephen Miller and with the acquisition will remain as a Director. Mr. Miller is a principal and managing director of Gordon Brothers Group and co-president of Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, both based in Boston. He was also a founding partner of Ozer Business Trust of Boston. Both will stay on with the Company. The Company employs several key industry professionals who will manage the Sea Miles and Sea Points program and its future development. Mr. Peter Rooney will be the President of the new combined entity. Mr. Tom Armstrong and Mr. Michael Vietri are part of the Company's team of travel and marketing specialists that will head the Company's newly-forged cruise loyalty and redemption business. ezmony54 Posted September 21, 2006 #29 Share Posted September 21, 2006 I wasn't so upset about the price of cruise as I was about the value of the points. Will use the cash back and buy cruise .
cruisechic3 Posted September 21, 2006 #30 Share Posted September 21, 2006 If you are interested in a cruise rewards card that gives the same benefit for half the points that Seamiles requires, check into the MBNA Cruise Rewards Card. Biggest drawback is that points begin to expire after 24 months. They only require 25,000 points to earn a $500 discount, while Seamiles requires 50,000 points for the same discount. I second this quote. I use this card and pay everything off each month so I do not accrue interest. You can get either $500 or $800 off a cruise depending on your points. The MBNA cruise rewards is a good way to go.
cantw82cruise Posted September 21, 2006 #31 Share Posted September 21, 2006 I have had the Seamiles card from the start and just got to the 50,000 point mark. I remember when I first got the card they said you could get up to $500 off for as little as 10,000 points. What a joke that was. I just booked a cruise with them and had several problems. I tried to book a "BL" and then they only wanted to give me $350 for my 50,000 points because they don't post a "BL" on there site. I talked to a supervisor who told me that's the way it is and there was nothing I could do about it. They wanted to book me at an 8A GTY which was $100 more pp. I didn't book, the next day the first lady I was talking to left a message at the house saying that she had talked to a different supervisor and they could now do the deal I wanted. I went a head a booked just so I can be done with them. A couple weeks later when the new Current came out they had a offer in there for past cruiser to get bumped up the the best cabin in their category at no additional cost. I called Carnival to see if I was eligible for this. I was told I was but had to have the TA call in. I called and left 3 messages with the lady I booked with. She never called me back. I finally got a hold of her, she said I no longer do reservations at that I need to call back and just talk to someone else. Thanks for the help... I called back and got a new person. She called Carnival while I held and came back and said I was not eligible for this. I called Carnival back and talked to a PVP and went through the whole thing. He gave me his ext. an said have her call me and I will take care of it. I did that, she called me back and said it would cost me $500 to change my reservation. I told her just leave it so I can be done dealing with you people. Sorry this was so long I really needed to vent. You know 50,000 points for $500 off is only 1% and you can get that in cash back from quite a few cards and book with whomever you want. I also looked at going until I could get a free cruise. The points they list on their site is a free cruise for one but you have to have enough points for two people. So you can double what they show. VentureMan_2000 Posted September 21, 2006 #32 Share Posted September 21, 2006 Boy... these sea miles folks seem like high pressure basement sales people... trying to squeeze every last drop of blood out of a nickel. What is the use of using points if the price is going to be more than Carnival's advertised price... So far, all I've heard is trouble. I don't see the benefit... :(

LHP Posted September 21, 2006 #35 Share Posted September 21, 2006 I was so disappointed because I use one agent at carnival for my cruises... I thought you could use these miles thru carnival... I didn't know you have to book thru seamiles. At this point just want to know about the travel insurance... I don't know if this is "standard practice" but you can still book through your PVP if you are using points for a cash discount. You can't if you are booking a "free cruise". We had enough points left over to get $500.00 off a cruise, so we went ahead and booked the cruise through our Carnival PVP.....the PVP gave us the booking number and a PIN to give to Sea Miles when we called them. This transfers the actual booking to Sea Miles...but at least you get to use someone you "know and trust" to actually book the cabins you want etc. PVP transferred the booking and we got $500.00 off the price the PVP gave us for our 2 cabins. Now I am going to cancel this card and use my MBNA!
LHP Posted September 21, 2006 #36 Share Posted September 21, 2006 Anyone know the particulars of the travel ins. included if you book your cruise with this card? I've been told you have full coverage including any carnival excursions booked. thanx. If you book a cruise through Sea Miles, you will pay for cruise insurance. It is not "included" just because you book your cruise with this card. You can reject their insurance and insure your trip independently. I have not read the policy, but it is probably the standard Carnival cruise insurance coverage.
jerrywp1955 Posted September 21, 2006 #37 Share Posted September 21, 2006 For those who are reading this, and are thinking of applying, let me also say that my interest rate is 16% and I have great credit. That means you have to be prepared to pay it off every month. They have also changed my grace period a couple of times, and if I had not been watching, they would have charged me interest. Luanne Luanne! You know the interest rate really shouldn't come into play, because in order to capitalize on the cash back or reward cards, you must pay it off every month. If you end up paying interest you are defeating the purpose of having one of these cards!! Venture! Is there a website on the back of your Citibank card?? I went to a Citibank site and the cards they offered had too many restrictions on it. You have to spend $3000.00 and then the 3% or 5% kick in!! Luanne21 Posted September 21, 2006 #38 Share Posted September 21, 2006 I completely agree that you have to keep your card paid off. I said that because I was pointing out that the interest was so high. All of you must get loads of applications in the mail for credit cards, and because of competition, the interest rates are low. I checked into our Discover card, because they advertise for Carnival deals too. You have to also go through their travel agency. Is everyone a TA these days?:) Luanne
Hurricane Girl Posted September 21, 2006 #39 Share Posted September 21, 2006 When my hubby booked our upcoming cruise he called our Carnival PVP and got a VERY GOOD price. Then he called Sea Miles and told them what Carnival had quoted and they matched it. We only booked with Sea Miles because the points were quadrupled if we did. Perry&Patti Posted September 22, 2006 #41 Share Posted September 22, 2006 We have a very bad taste in our mouth about the Sea Miles card. Very mislead about it when we applied for it and the Web site is very misleading too. Wanted to book a 8B (or something like that) used 74,000 plus points and pay what their web site said the cost for the second person would be. Were told we could only use 50,000 points at a time and the room had to be double occupancy. DH was on the phone for over 45 minutes before he was allowed to talk to a supervisor. Actually he didn't even get to talk to them. The person on the phone, Josh, said he had to walk to the building were the executives were to get permission to give us what we wanted. Waited on hold for 20 minutes longer. WE were not giving up. When he came back he said he got permission, but they were only going to do this once. So we got our 8B for 74,000 points and paid 819 for the second person. This was the price per person shown on Carnival's web site. We are closing this account ASAP. To much work to get what we want. CalifCruiser1 Posted September 22, 2006 #43 Share Posted September 22, 2006 i Think When Using Your Sea Miles You Should Call A Agent And Already Have A Price From A Travel Agent They Have Always Beat It For Me. We Have Had Two Free Cruises In The Last 1 1/2 Years Both In Cat 8b. If You Use The Card And Pay It Off Its A Deal- My Husband And I Use The Card For His Contracting Business And Everyday Stuff For Us It Adds Up Fast. For Us Its What It Is - A Free Cruise And I'll Take It Any Time. Its One Of Those Things You Have To Use And Use A Lot Otherwise Its Not Worth It Karon:)
Wennfred Posted September 22, 2006 #44 Share Posted September 22, 2006 I don't understand how people are trying to get something for nothing. If you have the points then use them. Sounds like people are trying to stretch out their points as if they earned triple points from some hidden place. Its simple, you spend a buck, you earn a point. On Carnival you spend a buck, you earn 2 points. On some selected cruises you earn 4 points to 1. You just can not demand a Specific Cat. cabin at a specific amount of points and then expect to pay the difference if it doesn't say that amount of points, thats plain and simple. There is no Point Value to these points and then to make someone jump over hoops to get this happen. If the policy says you can only pay 50,000 points at a time if you don't have enough points for the whole cruise, what makes you think you get special treatment over all other card holders? This is the type of issues that comes up with the SeaMiles or any other card that issue out points as a reward. These are the things that screw it up for everyone. Its probably why the Capitol One card is gone. Someone always looking for more then what they have. It floors me to read some of these responses, If you are not happy with the card, Cancel your card and go else where or go get a 3% Cash Back card. Its probably easier to understand. As for me I spend and use the card and I cruise for Free when I have the right amounts of points, its that simple. This is all I have to say about this Issue.
