Missabby Posted September 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Does anyone know where the larger cruise ships generally dock in Venice? Are they all in the same place, consistently? Thanks.
Susan-M Posted September 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2006 This is the website for Marittima Terminal: http://www.vtp.it/Default.jsp?language=1 If it comes up in Italian, click on the U.Jack. In the Ships Schedule section you can check to see if your ship is docking there, and at which berth. (enter the date beside: Ships From: dd/mm/yr) There is also info on the location of the terminal and how to get between the airport and terminal. chriswat Posted September 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2006 We note that there is a bus from the airport to the Piazza Roma, however it appears that there is quite a long walk to the cruise terminal or alternatively another bus trip. Otherwise the vaperetto from the airport only goes to San Marco and then we would need to get another vaparetto around to the terminal. With the exception of a taxi - is there any direct service from the airport to the Marittima?

Susan-M Posted September 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2006 With the exception of a taxi - is there any direct service from the airport to the Marittima? If you are going directly from the airport to the cruise terminal, an alternative to taking a taxi the whole way would be to take the Airport shuttle for 3 E pp to Piazzale Roma and then get a cab from there for the short ride to the cruise terminal. We walked from the cruise ship to Piazzale Roma - it took about 10-15 minutes and our luggage was easy to handle, but for 10E (or thereabouts) I would take a taxi next time, or look for the shuttle between P.Roma and the Cruise terminal. The airport shuttle is direct and would be just as quick to P. Roma as a taxi, so you would probably add 10 minutes to your trip by transferring to a taxi at P. Roma .... just not sure how much savings there is between doing it that way and taking a taxi the whole way. I would not do the route from Airport to S. Marco to cruise terminal as you are going quite a ways out of your way. This map shows how close P. Roma is to the cruise terminal: http://www.vtp.it/pages/comeRaggiungerci/comeRaggiungerci02.jsp
cusyl Posted September 28, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2006 As I recall you can take a land taxi from the airport direct to the ship.
Susan-M Posted September 28, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 28, 2006 As I recall you can take a land taxi from the airport direct to the ship. Yes ... here is the info from the Cruise terminal website: DIRECTIONS TO CRUISE TERMINALS FROM THE AIRPORT The Venice Airport Marco Polo is only 15 km far away from the lagoon city. Reach the Port of Venice by: - Taxi cab (about a 20 minutes ride) - Water taxi (about a 60 minutes trip) - Water Shuttle (about 80 minutes trip) - Public bus arriving in Piazzale Roma, nearby the Port of Venice. (about 20 minutes trip) FROM PIAZZALE ROMA Piazzale Roma is the only part of the city of Venice that can be reached by car. Here information point for public bus and vaporetti, as well as taxi station and guarded parking areas are available. The cruise and ferry terminals can be reached by: - Taxi cab (about 2 minutes trip). - Bus n. 6/ stopping just outside the entrance to the passenger port. On Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays, when ships are performing homeport operations, a free of charge shuttle bus to/from Piazzale Roma- Cruise Terminal is available every 15/20 minutes for cruise passengers.
