Flying into Ft Lauderdale (hotel and car recs, please)

We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale at noon on Friday in anticipation of our Saturday EOS cruise. Should we rent a car, or just depend on public transportation to get from Airport/Hotel/Pier. I guess we'd need to drop off the car somewhere near the pier.

We were going to get our hotel on Priceline, now I am thinking of renting a car. It might just work better.

Any opinions, or hotel recs appreciated.

Wife & I stayed at the LaQuinta on 26th street last April/May. A++ in all respects. They will pick you up from fll.

We had larry's Limo take us from the LQ to port of Miami the next morning for 62usd incl. tip. A++ also.

Return trip we took Alamo shuttle from the pier to get a car for 34usd. Drove around Miami Beach then on to FLL. Alamo's office at MIA was the only problem...2 agents working with a line of 30 or more customers.

we got a good deal at amerisuites in fll on 17th street thru valuetrips dot com- they pick you up and take you to the pier free- we did this for enchantment in sept- paid 65 a night- decent hotel- not the ritz but was fine just to sleep there- had stores next parking lot over walking distance in case you forgot something- grocery and liquor-

Yep. I am stressed out about it since I have tons of other work to do, but I must admit, I am not stressed out about making accomodations, last minute. DH and I are students and our research takes us around the world. Most times we arrive in places (admittedly Europe, and especially the Middle East) with absolutely no plans. Two years ago I arrived in Spain and Italy with no plans and was more than fine. I am certainly not apprehensive about arriving in a domestic location, where I speak the language perfectly, without accomodations, but these boards are here, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks for the input though. It really helps.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Hollywood when we flew into FFL. They have a free shuttle that will pick you at the airport. The place is closer to Miami too and we were very pleased with the grounds and rooms. We then hired Ambassador Limo ( tip included ) to transport us from there to the pier in Miami & back to FFL after the cruise. We had a large group so the private transportation worked out best for us.
