Unique highlights of San Juan suggestions?

If you had 3 1/2 hours to spend in San Juan (old and new parts of the city) in a van tour and had a person with limited mobility what are some of the places/things you would visit?

We enjoy:

-- places tourists do not necessarily see most of the time

-- unique things/shops

-- we don't think we want to visit the distillery

-- we like nature and animals

-- we have seen an over view of Old San Juan from a buggy tour

Maybe something different than the forts, distillery, shops in OSJ...

Suggestions?

I would check www.*****

What do you mean by, "from a buggy tour".

Maybe something different than the forts, distillery, shops in OSJ...

on the link above you can click on sightseeing and then expert and this way find out if any of the tourist board endorsed tour companies have any other optiion available.

I remember from your previous post that you will be on your way to the airport, so here are some places you could see on the way. The performing

arts center on Ponce de Leon has a beautiful plaza surrounding it and would be

easy walking. Around the corner on de Diego is the Museum of Art with some

gardens, also easy walking. For shops, in Condado, stop at Eleanor's on

Ashford. VERY upscale, but has a great sale table! Just the window is worth a

look. On to Isla Verde, near the airport, go to El San Juan Hotel for some

very nice small shops. Handicap accessible. Good luck and happy trails.

Hi Oaktree, thanks for the info:) We have been able to work out a tour for us and another couple after our cruise. It doesn't look like we will be able to meet up after all.

We are looking for things to see/do other than the really typical sites such as the forts, OSJ, etc. I am hoping to get some hints such as the ones you have given. It looks like we will have 3 hours or so to tour.

I have read that the distillery can be a bit boring, they don't let you in to see much I read.

Gardens, unique architecture, unique easy stop shopping that's accessible (and affordable!), etc.

Thanks again for your ideas!

I will suggest:

  • San Patricio Forest in Guaynabo, which is less than 30 minutes from the Old San Juan. Their staff is trained to work with people with disabilities (wheelchairs, deaf, blind).
  • In that area, you can also visit the Ruins of Caparra Museum.
  • Another place will be the town of Caguas (Tobacco Museum, Casa del Trovador, etc.)

Good luck.
