Non-Smoking Cabins on the Radiance

I would like to know what side of the ship is considered to be NO-SMOKING.

Although some cruise companies are more strict that others, we would like to know what RCL policy is. We are considering a cruise on the Radison.

Also, what is the difference between D1 and E1 Balcony Cabins.

There are no non-smoking cabins on the Radiance, or any ship for that matter. I believe smoking is allowed on outdoor decks on the port side (someone correct me if I am wrong?) yikes! I was on the Radiance last month and I can't remember  RCI will ask a smoker to butt out if they are lighting up on the wrong side of the ship.

The casino allows smoking, and so does the Colony Club at the rear of the Schooner Bar.

Hope this helps?

RCCL does not have any non smoking cabins on any ship. D1 is a slightly bigger cabin than E1. Notice the size on the website. There are designated smoking section throughout all the ships :)

Radiance is considered a non smoker friendly ship. Smoking is allowed in all cabins, you must request an ashtray from your cabin attendant. Smoking is permitted on open decks in locations on the starboard (right) side of the ship, this was the case on our cruise in '06. The only inside public areas that permitted smoking were the casino, the bar at the very rear of the Colony Club, the nightclub with the revolving bar in the Viking Crown and I think a cigar bar, also in the Viking Crown. Even the two outdoor bars, Pool and Sky, were non-smoking; first time I've ever seen these two bars virtually empty during a cruise.

I wish that cruise lines would wise up and operate more like hotels in regards to smoking/non-smoking rooms. On our last family cruise we had an inside for the kids that reeked of smoke upon arrival (son has asthma...a big no-no). We had to contact our "cabin mouse" to have it taken care of. She changed ALL of the bedding and sprayed orange-sol all over the place. It was much better, but needed to be orange-sol-ed again mid week. Public spaces weren't an issue, but the room sure was!!

If a cruise line offered a totally smoke-free cruise and/or ship, I'd jump on the offer. I'm sure others would as well. BTW I put "offer non-smoking cruises/rooms" on the comment card at the end of the cruise....they haven't gotten back to me yet.

To refer to a cabin steward as a "cabin mouse" is a total insult. Woe is me, what a shameful remark. By the way, don't wait for them to get back to you, as I doubt they will.

It is highly unlikely that smoke free cabins will be offered anytime in the near future. That alone presents the risk of the cruise lines not filling their ships. Imagine this scenario. A group of 30 passengers calls to book a group cruise and all they have left are rooms that allow smoking. These people all wanted non smoking. So the rooms don't get booked and sail out empty. Won;t likely happen.

Carnival tried that with one of their ships, didn't last long, as they couldn't fill the ship

I think the ship was the Carnival Paradise, if not someone will correct this. I am not sure whether it was filling the ship that was a problem OR the revenue drop per passenger as compared to a "smoking" ship. Either way, the project ended.

There were all kinds of 'fire sale' type specials for the Paradise before it ended it's run as a non-smoking ship, so I assume that part of the problem was filling it; and part of the problem was that those who are abstemious about smoking are probably less likely to be big drinkers or gamblers, so that affects the bottom line, too, as Bobbeasea says.

I respectfully disagree. Westin Hotels are now totally smoke-free.

It's simply a matter of sooner or later and sooner is the better bet!

Ah, but there's a big difference between a totally smoke-free ship and one which offers a choice of smoking or non-smoking cabins.

My guess is that one of the major cruise lines will begin to offer smoke-free cabins before the end of 2007. It would be marketing genius as they would get a major upswing in bookings from those who are looking (and there are many) for a smoke-free cabin experience
