vikesfan Posted December 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2006 On our first cruise we had freestyle dining on NCL, so sometimes we ate early evening. Then by 10pm or so we were ready for a little snack. We looked for nachos or potato skins or something like that. But all we could find was the buffet with rubbery burgers, chicken strips and fries...NASTY! We leave on the Grand in about 4 weeks  , and I am wondering what kind of options we will have for late night food. We have anytime dining and so could come across this situation again. This will certainly not make or break our cruise, I am just curious. Plus, if I think about it...do we really need more food? ;) Thanks for any info you can share. Toto2Kansas Posted December 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2006 I don't think you are going to be finding any type of munchies like you described, but there will be a Bistro after 11:00 PM (I think that is around the time it changes) and you should be able to find food there. We always take along things like chips and the like and bring cookies back to our cabin from the buffet, just in case a very light late night snack is needed. cruzinchris Posted December 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted December 28, 2006 Princess offers 24-hour Room Service. Here's a link to Room Service menu from the Crown that gives you an idea of what's available 'round-the-clock: http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2755473410054971125Czrseo Most Room Service items are complimentary, and there are also some items that can be ordered for a nominal charge. The guacamole/salsa w/chips is awesome - a huge portion for $8. Bon Appetit and Bon Voyage! Chris
Kelly K Posted December 28, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 28, 2006 I so agree with you. When you have dinner at 7pm and then hit the bar/casino for the evening - and head back to the room in the "wee" hours, we usually zip up to the H court to see what's interesting. Just did the Sun over Thanksgiving and that was a little disappointing for us! Just looking for some chips & salsa was my big thing!!! Cookies are easy to take back to the room during daytime hours, but honestly can't remember ever seeing the Chips & Salsa thing. Chris is right about the price for the room delivered chip & guac, but personally I don't care for the guac & want the salsa! I suggest bringing some on with you~ At least on NCL - the Casino had a late night snack table which I thought was pretty good.....

DougH Posted December 28, 2006 #6 Share Posted December 28, 2006 The only ship I've been on that seems to change the food selection into more "snack" type stuff late at night is the Dawn Princess. Not sure why just this ship but probably has more to do with the chef and/or staff choice than anything else.
vikesfan Posted December 29, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted December 29, 2006 Thanks so much for the information. I can understand that staffing and kitchen facilities could make it difficult to do additional late night snacks. I guess we will just have to have an extra drink (or two) instead. :D
emoki3 Posted December 31, 2006 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2006 We just got off of the Diamond. There were plenty of nights where we went up to Horizon Court about 10 or so cause we were hungry (especially since we would have dinner about 5:30). They array of food was great!! There was shirmp, fish dishes, beef dishes, chicken dishes, rice, rolls, fruit, desserts (some nights they even had a dessert table in the room itself), sandwich stuff, etc.. There was always something there that would satisfy us. Hope that this helps...:) emoki3

mandiecandie5 Posted December 31, 2006 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2006 Cruzinchris- Thanks for posting the room service menu! My last Princess cruise we were missing the 'blue book' with all these menus and other information (requessted many times and it never came) so we never had the chance to order room service! ...Not missing it this time :D
MCManders99 Posted January 1, 2007 #12 Share Posted January 1, 2007 DH and I ordered from room service about every night on our Sun Cruise. We ordered about midnight or so. I'm with you with the burger thing that late. But the burgers came with fries so I just asked for a big plate of fries and ketchup. That satisfied me. Pam in CA Posted January 1, 2007 #13 Share Posted January 1, 2007 >> but there will be a Bistro after 11:00 PM What is the Bistro? I've never seen a menu or discussion on it. So far as I know, the Bistro is on the Regal Princess -- it's a sectioned off area of the buffet (not called the Horizon Court on the Regal). I'm not aware of a dining room or section called the Bistro on other Princess ships.
bship-777 Posted January 1, 2007 #14 Share Posted January 1, 2007 The Princess website says the Star has a Bistro from 11PM to 4AM. I've heard it's in the Horizon Court. I was just curious what they served.
Marque Posted January 1, 2007 #15 Share Posted January 1, 2007 I believe the Diamond had a Bistro, which was a roped off remote part of HC.
