mikjr Posted January 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2007 We're headed to Alaska on June 1 on the Princess Dawn. This is our first time and we're trying to decide what the best excursions are. Below is what we have selected so far: KETCHINKAN: BEST OF KETCHIKAN BY LAND & SEA SITKA: SEA OTTER & WILDLIFE QUEST JUNEAU: MENDENHALL GLACIER & WHALE QUEST OR JUNEAU: BEST OF JUNEAU Any thoughts, opinions, or suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks mike
Budget Queen Posted January 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2007 Since these are ship excursions, I also suggest you might want to consider independent especially for the Sitka wildlife cruise. Superior are the independent venders, especially if you want to see puffins. The Ketchikan- "by sea" segment is a fair amount of time retracing your cruise ship route. What is the land description?? Saxman Village is very interesting, if included. But it is also a great walking city to also consider. Walking tour maps available right from the dock visitor center. Juneau- great choice for humpbacks and a short visit at Mendenhall. If you think you are going to want extended time, hiking?? You can also look at an independent drop off/pick up. Best of Juneau, is way overpriced with the cruiselines, MGT runs a similar Juneau city tour/Mendenhall glacier stop for $22. They do an excellent job.
