bguppies Posted January 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2007 I have seen people talking about using the Our Lucaya facilities for either free with food and drink purchases or by paying to use the hotel chairs. First. Do you have to go to the front desk to pay for the use of chairs for the day or does someone approach you pool/beachside and ask for cash? I have done some research about the Our Lucaya resort and see it broken into 3 different facilities. From left to riight, the Sheraton (the 4 story building) The Westin (the large building to the center/left and the Westin Lighthouse Point. (the shorter building with lighthouse to the right) Is my research on which hotel is which in the above photo correct? If so..... Second, are people able to use any of the 3 facilities pools or just the Sheraton? If my research is correct.... This would be a photo from the Westin.... These would be from the Westin Lighthouse Point The reason I ask, is because the only pool shots I could find of the actual Sheraton were of waterslides. Every Sheraton pool photo seemed to try to pass of the circular Westin pool as the Sheraton's. My Wife and I would prefer a quiter, lounging pool like those pictured at the Westin or Lighthouse Point, than a waterslide type pool, like at the Sheraton. Any help from locals or anybody with recent experience at Our Lucaya with the use of their facilities, would be GREATLY appreciated. Bill
bguppies Posted January 8, 2007 Author #2 Share Posted January 8, 2007 Also, has anybody parasailed at Our Lucaya and if you remember, what did it cost? Thanks again.
mikebarnett Posted January 8, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2007 My question about this also is, coming in from a cruise ship, if I just wanted to hang out on the beach for a few hours at the Sheraton/Westin area, could I use the pool, restrooms, bar at these resorts, or do they have a way of keeping non-hotel customers from using these facilities? If I were to rent chairs from them, do they let me use their facilities? How much does renting a chair cost?
bguppies Posted January 9, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted January 9, 2007 My question about this also is, coming in from a cruise ship, if I just wanted to hang out on the beach for a few hours at the Sheraton/Westin area, could I use the pool, restrooms, bar at these resorts, or do they have a way of keeping non-hotel customers from using these facilities? If I were to rent chairs from them, do they let me use their facilities? How much does renting a chair cost? That is exactly the clarification I was trying to get. Apparently, any of the beaches in the Bahamas are public access, so we could use the beach for sure. It is the use of loungers and pool facilitites that is the big question. I have read where some people post that walked right in and used the pool area, loungers, etc.... and just purchased food and drink and were never bothered. (which I plan on buying lunch and drinks anyway, so it's not a problem) I have read where people were approached and asked to pay $10 to use the pool and loungers. (which again, I have no problem with) I also read reviews by people who stayed at the 3 facilities, that stated they had security patrolling the pool areas checking for wristbands. But I also wanted clarification on whether you could use any of the pools at this rather large group of facilities, as apparently, people staying at any of the 3 facilties can. I just don't want to waste $5 per person each way and our afternoon making the trip into this area when 1) neither my wife or I enjoys swimming in the ocean. We both prefer pools, but enjoy the view oceanside. (as the view from the ship in port is terrible.) 2) neither of us has any intrest in shopping across the street if the pools don't pan out.... Hopefully a few people can help us out on these questions. Bill
KINGBOBOFTHENORTH Posted January 10, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2007 The pools are for hotel guests only. If you use them it's possible security would see you and request that you leave. Hotel guests can use the pool facilities of both hotels but non-guests should not use either pools. As far as I know the complex does NOT offer any kind of day pass. Someone previously posted that there was such a pass but never came back to repost any details, so I remain skeptical. Someone going should call the hotel and just ask. The last time I was there I was in the pool area for a half-hour and never saw any security come through, but that was a short time period. The beaches are public and free. You can rent beach chairs/umbreallas from vendors. To the original poster, your picture captions are correct. How about spending $3 and calling Our Lucaya and ask about a day pass for cruise guests.....and then let all of us know. BobK/Orlando

Our plan is to just see what the weather is like the day we arrive. If it is beach weather, we will make the trip to Lucaya. And if so, I will definitely check about getting a daypass and report back upon our return. Bill
jl5200 Posted January 10, 2007 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2007 The Lucaya resort pools are for hotel guests only, (guests get wrist bands) We also thought we would be able to buy a day pass, but we were told they do not sell day passes but we could rent beach chairs. Westin would not rent the chairs to us because the hotel was sold out. Sheraton rented the chairs to us for $10 each. We ate lunch at one of the restaurants and also used the restrooms there all day. bguppies Posted February 2, 2007 Author #13 Share Posted February 2, 2007 Just got back. Was in Freeport on Monday. Took the cab from the ship for $5 each way per person. About a 20 minute drive with little to see. (unless seeing Freeport's KFC, Burger King, Dominoes, etc... seems like fun) The cab dropped us off in front of the Lucaya Casino and he showed us how to access the beach between the hotels. The beach was gorgeous with soft white, powdery sand. It was decently warm on Monday when we were there. (for January 29th) About 75 degrees, but felt warmer on the beach in the sun. The water was too cold to swim in, but it was plenty warm enough to sunbathe. My Wife wanted to rent a lounge chair and relax on the beach and get some sun, but sadly, not one vendor was on the beach renting chairs. All 3 hotels had chairs stacked up on the edge of the beach, but all were locked into stacks and no one was around to unlocke them or rent them. The only hotel with any out to be used was the fanciest hotel all the way down the beach to the left. The Westin . There was a lifeguard there with just a handful of chairs set out on the beach, but when asked, he stated that his hotel doesn't rent their chairs. That they are only for hotel guests use. He said that the other hotels do rent their chairs, but when we went down the beach, neither hotel had anybody working as a lifeguard, or renting equipment or chairs. It is definitely a extremely nice beach and would have been worth $10 to rent a chair for a few hours to enjoy the sun and sound of the surf. Hopefully when the rest of you are in Freeport, the hotels have somebody renting the chairs. Bill
