Havinsnest Posted January 4, 2008 #1576 Share Posted January 4, 2008 Now we book our excursions through a private company. We have never been late back from an excursion and always have been completely satisfied with the service provided. This is good to know as we were very late coming back from a Carnival sanctioned excursion last week and wondered about non-Carnival excursions. I made reservations on-line for the Pointe Supper Club for the last day of our upcoming cruise. I did not receive a confirmation. Do I need one??? How do I know for sure that they booked it?We got a phone call the first afternoon we were on board to confirm our reservations. We got an invitation under our door later in the week and a second phone call the day of our reservation. If you are concerned I would call them the first day and ask to confirm. austinlw Posted January 4, 2008 #1577 Share Posted January 4, 2008 2 Conquest questions: Are there any "don't miss" activities on the Conquest that I ought to plan for? We were on RC Rhapsody last year and knew in advance (thanks to CC) that we needed to plan around the "cocktail seminar" and "Quest" game. Are there any similar must-do activities on Conquest? Regarding the electronic poker tables: Are they limit or no-limit? If limit - 2/4? 3/6? 4/8? Or does it depend on what the players want? Thanks. dprg644 Posted January 4, 2008 #1578 Share Posted January 4, 2008 I noticed the Valor is going in for some major upgrades. I was wondering if anyone (Mach can you help) knew if and when the Conquest was going in drydock for some upgrades? I heard that it was in 2008. If so what upgrades would she be getting? Thanks. dh & i really got a kick out of the newlywed not so newlywed game. we laughed quite a bit. i would pass on the bingo, for i found it a big rip off. the hold em table was pot limit, but i honestly do not remember how much the limits were. sorry, maybe someone who has been on the ship more recently can answer that for you. Almost Packed Posted January 5, 2008 #1582 Share Posted January 5, 2008 anyone done this excursion?http://carnival.com/ShoreExcursionDetails.aspx?portcode=CAY&excursionname=Cayman+Pirate+Encounter&excursioncode=417034 i did not do this excursions, but i had heard from some of the other parents that little kids were frightened on it. so if you have small children, you may reconsider or do a little more research. i would think older kids would like it very much. kanokla Posted January 5, 2008 #1583 Share Posted January 5, 2008 I have a couple of questions. I've seen comments to the effect that the Conquest rooms smell of smoke and that many passengers can be found smoking in no smoking areas. Any comments on this? Also i've seen comments suggesting that you're better off foregoing Carnival excursions? Is there a way to 'book' excursions (Cozumel, Montego and GC) in advance from third party vendors, or should we just go with a vendor once we leave the boat - that seems risky to me. Thoughts? This is only our second cruise and we'll be celebrating a major anniversary. Thanks in advance for comments.
yst347 Posted January 5, 2008 #1584 Share Posted January 5, 2008 I have a couple of questions. I've seen comments to the effect that the Conquest rooms smell of smoke and that many passengers can be found smoking in no smoking areas. Any comments on this? We have never experienced what you describe, nor have we ever heard such comments. We have sailed Conquest twice, the first in 2003 and the second this past year. We do not smoke. Also i've seen comments suggesting that you're better off foregoing Carnival excursions? Is there a way to 'book' excursions (Cozumel, Montego and GC) in advance from third party vendors, or should we just go with a vendor once we leave the boat - that seems risky to me. Thoughts? We rarely book excursions through the cruise line. We usually find better value booking privately. Your mileage may vary. Have you read the Port of Call boards for MoBay, Grand Cayman and Cozumel? These boards are full of good information about cruise sponsored excursions as well as private vendors, a great place to begin your research. This is only our second cruise and we'll be celebrating a major anniversary. Thanks in advance for comments. Happy Anniversary! Have a great cruise! :)
sixgun8 Posted January 5, 2008 #1585 Share Posted January 5, 2008 My DW and I are also on the 02/17 sailing. This will be our 6th cruise and we feel very comfortable booking our excursions locally and saving the money. Just book those that schedule you back in plenty of time. Make sure and check in with our roll call if you haven't already.

Joedog Posted January 5, 2008 #1587 Share Posted January 5, 2008 I am sure this has been asked before. I tried to search the thread but didnt get good results so.... Can anyone tell us what is a realistic EARLY disembark time? We need to be in a car heading for Houston Hobby by about 9AM to arrive at the airport 2 hours before our flight. Is that USUALLY doable? What time does the Conquest usually get in and clear customs? Would we have to self-disembark? Our cruise returns on Feb 24th if it makes a difference. Any info would be welcome. lindslea Posted January 5, 2008 #1588 Share Posted January 5, 2008 We've been on Conquest several times out of Galveston and I would say that is possible most but not all of the time. You can get in the first group off (with walk-off disembarkment) by talking to the pursers desk the night before. The problem is, if the ship arrives in port late Sunday morning or if there is a delay in customs for any reasons, you won't make it. When we sailed last April, the sailing before ours arrived back in Galveston around 8:00 for some reason and the passengers didn't START getting off until at least 9:00. I personally would not take the chance, especially since you are also having to deal with any variables that might arise between Galveston and the airport. Just my opinion. Others may say "go for it".
lindslea Posted January 5, 2008 #1589 Share Posted January 5, 2008 Sorry, I missed a couple of your specific questions. Yes, it would probably be better to self-disembark. Carnival tries really hard to get the people with early flights off first, but either way you will probably have to stand in line to clear customs with your luggage, then wait for the bus to fill unless you have individual transportation back to your car. The ship usually arrives around 6 a.m. if all goes well. Voyager arrives at that time, too, so getting turned and docked also depends on who gets there first. It usually only takes maybe an hour (or a little over) to clear customs, but again, that can vary. Last sailing for us it took the ship over 2 hours to clear customs. Other sailings for us passengers were getting off by 7:00. You just never know.

Treens Posted January 5, 2008 #1592 Share Posted January 5, 2008 My DD and I are driving into Galveston on the 13th. It is a 3 hour drive, but I am taking no chances and leaving at 7am to give 8 hours before the 3pm cut off. What is the earliest we can board the ship? If all goes well and we arrive at 10am, I guess we can hang out at the Waffle House or Starbucks or something, right? Thanks in advance!

You can probably board around 12:00 or so, but parking Lot B may or may not be excepting cars at 10:00 sometimes they do, sometimes it 10:30 or so. There should be plenty of places to hang out at. We usually stay the night before on Seawall, and leave at checkout. Have fun and enjoy your cruise
Almost Packed Posted January 6, 2008 #1595 Share Posted January 6, 2008 on our sailing, the ship was late getting into port due to fog. we were there in march of last year. i think we were a couple of hours late. if you are flying, i highly suggest switching to a later flight. not only do you have to worry about getting in port on time and customs, but travel to the airport, and then getting through the airport. jmo, but i'm an airline employee. i would hate to see you miss your flight. plus, who wants to get all stressed after being so relaxed before on the ship? jmo. Taylor's Nona Posted January 6, 2008 #1599 Share Posted January 6, 2008 We were down in the lounge meeting place @ 700. I guess they started the debarkation about 715. We were in our car @ 745. We paid the EZ cruise extra $$ cause DH didn't want to wait @ the terminal for others going to the lot to come down. Yes, we self disembarked.
