GinnyJ Posted March 31, 2008 #2102 Share Posted March 31, 2008 ILuv2CruiseWithU2, Yes, we had those but after the first day, it sure was nice to have something connected to the lanyard and the same size as the sail and sign card. 1. What do i pack? power strip as there is only one outlet in the cabin, 2. I am going to Montego bay, grand cayman and coxumel and were trying to figure out which shore exscurstion to do but there are so many how do you choose? You HAVE to swim with the stingrays while in GC. We love Captain Marvin! Been with him 3 times now. Look him up on the web and book the 10:30am ( maybe its 10:15 or 10:45). The morning that you get to GC, they will hand out tinder tickets in the T. Lounge. Be there about 45 minutes before and sit up front on the right hand side so that you get a early off ticket. In Mobay, go to Sunset Beach Resort (look up on the web). You dont have to prebook. Just catch a taxi ($2-3 pp) , when you get there just ask for a day pass - $40 adults/ $20 kids. All you can drink, eat, snorkel, water park, towels, pools, swim up bar. Great for couples or family. 3. we booked a aft cabin 7449 with EB is this a good choice for a 1st time cruiser? 4. is the super club really something you should do on board? If you think you would like it, give it a try. $30 pp. - meal and tip included. 5. we don't drink~ Is water and ice tea cost on the ship? free and as well as coffee, punch, orange juice. You can bring cokes in your carry on. 6. Will our cell phones work? Ours do. We use AT&T and get the plan where it is $5-6 a month and we pay less per minute. We always cancel the plan when we get home. 7. how do i get the capers for our cruise or are they all the same? The cabin steward will leave them in your cabin while you are at dinner every evening. You can go to 'web shots' and type in "Conquest Capers" to see the current ones. 8. how much cash should we bring? 9. Anyone give me some first time cruising advice things to do and not to do? If you like sea food, try SurMur (aft deck 10 above buffet), tea time on sea days (3:30/Alfred's),
ESR24 Posted March 31, 2008 #2103 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Does anyone know what the tours are for disembarkation day? Things in Galveston? Houston? Do they bring you back to the airport (IAH)? We're not flying out until the day after but thought a tour of the area might be fun right after we get off the boat.

soon to cruise Posted March 31, 2008 #2105 Share Posted March 31, 2008 sodas... if you bring your own then be sure and NOT pack them with any clothes. The bags are smashed beyond belief and some cans will get crushed! We had ours in a cooler (soft side) and had a tag on it. We lost about 3 cans. Not a big deal unless you have clothes and pop in the same bag. Just a heads up. I'm sure you wouldnt have done it anyway....
sabandmom Posted March 31, 2008 #2106 Share Posted March 31, 2008 I saw somewhere a site you could see how many ships are in port on a particular day. Does anyone know how many ships are in port when the conquest is there? Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel? Thanks!

Desiree D Posted March 31, 2008 #2108 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Looking at the Galveston Camera, what are those windows going across the top. My DH says those are Ocean view cabins- I think it's restaurant or maybe the spa, who can tell me? Just curious. We are cruising her in Nov.... Thanks! Desiree D Posted March 31, 2008 #2109 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Dumb question, probably the Bridge- the windows across the top, front-- well, duh- sorry, I'm guessing it's the Bridge, now that I think about it....

Almost Packed Posted March 31, 2008 #2111 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Hi everyone, I am new to this board and brand new to cruising. I've booked my first cruise for July 6th 2008 on the conquest. I have been searching high and low for answers to all my questions. I can't seem to navigate this web site well. Can any of you help me? 1. What do i pack? As little or as much as you want. I have a packing list that i made, taking from ideas gathered on these boards. give me your email address and i can email it to you if you like. it is very thorough. 2. I am going to Montego bay, grand cayman and coxumel and were trying to figure out which shore exscurstion to do but there are so many how do you choose? you will hear different suggestions, read about them and find what interests you. dh (dh=darling husband) & i did the canopy tour (zip line) in Jamaica. IT WAS FABULOUS!!! in GC, we did the beginner scuba, booked through the ship. It was the most incredible thing i have ever done. we are not certified, but this gives you an idea of what it's like to scuba. this was the highlight of my entire cruise, which was our first cruise too. in coz, we did the playa mia beach, it was not near the party scene i was affraid it would be and i was glad about that. we parasailed here and really enjoyed it. we would do this again too. 3. we booked a aft cabin 7449 with EB is this a good choice for a 1st time cruiser? -i figure any cabin you are in, is a good cabin! i cannot speak for that cabin 4. is the super club really something you should do on board? we did not do this, but heard it was great 5. we don't drink~ Is water and ice tea cost on the ship? ice tea...well, it's available, but it's the tea that comes out of a machine...like cokes...so it's not the greatest-not fresh brewed.I'm a huge ice tea drinker. the water taste fine on the ship, but you can bring your own bottle water if you like. (make sure you purchase a carnival water bottle and insulated holder on your way off the ship while getting into port. great keepsake and good to have with you) 6. Will our cell phones work? i was on vacation, kids were in good safe hands. i did not even attempt to use my phone 7. how do i get the capers for our cruise or are they all the same? capers will be delivered to your cabin nightly. 8. how much cash should we bring? this is completely up to you. if you gamble, i would bring more because they charge a fee to get cash in the casino. i think there are ways around that but i'm not sure of them. we booked our excursions in advanced online through the cruiseline. don't forget there will be additional charges on your s&s card (sail and sign) gratuities and fuel charges now per person. Make sure you have small bills for tips etc. you charge everything onboard to your s&s card with the exception in the casino. so you don't need much/any cash on board. however, in ports you will want cash, as all the ports you will visit will gladly take your American $'s. 9. Anyone give me some first time cruising advice things to do and not to do? I would say, don't waste your time playing bingo. that was the biggest waste of my money (oh, you can pay cash there)and my time. Relax, have fun. Don't feel like you have to make every show/activity. Sleep when you want to, and wake up when you want to. Relax! I think i was the laziest person on the ship. I wanted to relax and that is exactly what i did. everyone will offer their opinions, as i did. you choose what works best for you. read up on these boards. I felt like a pro by the time i got on the ship just from reading the boards. i honestly thought the best part of my cruise would be the ship, as it turned out, it was the ports that i enjoyed the most. don't get me wrong, the ship was fab. and so was our cabin. but i really enjoyed our excursions. I hope this helps a bit. have fun!

Can you please email it to wrangleroper@yahoo.com ? thanks so much!! Few more questions my DH wanted to ask. 1. We have narrowed our excursions down to two choices per port and we are wanting to know if anyone has done these on there cruise and if so how was it? In mobay we were trying to pick either Rose hall & shopping or dunns river and dolphine cove swim through carnival. In Grand Cayman we are wanting to do the sting ray thing and snorkel I heard on here that captin marvin is the way to go. In Coz we were thinking of booking the dune buggy trip through carnival. Anyone have any thoughts on these choices? thanks again for all your help! Angela
crystalblue0610 Posted April 1, 2008 #2113 Share Posted April 1, 2008 I know people always mentioned Sunset Beach in MoBay. VERY close to the ship and safe. It was nice, clean, etc But don't forget about Paradise Beach in Cozumel. That place is heaven. It trumps Sunset Beach all the way. Food, water, activities, etc http://www.paradise-beach-cozumel.com/ So definitely go there:D

ASaville05 Posted April 1, 2008 #2118 Share Posted April 1, 2008 We are booking the CC Cruising with the Crazies Group Cruise for 09/20/08. My birthday is on the 17th of September and my Dad is turning the big 5-0 on the 23rd so we will have lots of celebrating to do! This will be the 3rd possibly 4th cruise (working on VOTS on RCCL for DH bday in Feb.) for me and DH, and first time for my parents! My mom wants to keep everything a surprise for my dad... We are not going to say anything until late Friday night or Saturday morning when we drive down. I hope he likes surprises... This will be our first time booking a cruise outside of Carnival. So, naturally, I have some questions. 1st- Will I still be able to see our booking online with Carnival, like with our booking number? I really enjoy looking up what excursions they have directly. 2nd- What if the rates drop? (not that they would drop below this great deal, but just curious:)) 3rd- Can we upgrade after the full deposit is paid? 4th- Are we still entitled to the same compensation if a port is skipped or something of that nature? Anyone have any thoughts on these choices? thanks again for all your help! Angela We took the Conquest Feb,1,2008. It was our first cruise and boy did we learn alot. In Montego Bay we rented a private car for about 30 bucks a person. For that we got a 4 hour tour of the island. Rosehall, Anchovie and Downtown. It was really worth it since we saw things that were off the beaten path. In Grand Cayman we did the Sting Ray/Snorkel tour with Kelly's Watersports it was worth every penny and I would do it again in a heartbeat. In Cozumel we chose the Beach Break at Playa Mia. It was awful! Do not book this through Carnival. We paid $69.00 each for what was to be an air-conditioned bus ride and all inclusive trip. Well the bus ride turned into hot over crowded taxis that took over and hour and half to get us all there. Once there we needed cash for deposits on everything. The only thing that was absolutely free was food and drink. Our family took a taxi on their own and paid $20 for the same things we got, plus they got to the beach an hour before us. even with that it was a wonderful trip! We are booked for Feb 09 on the Victory.

Almost Packed Posted April 2, 2008 #2124 Share Posted April 2, 2008 Hey for those of you who have already been on cruises can you tell me what type of camara you used? I am looking to purchase a new camara and i want one that can take picturs on shore and underwater. Any thoughts on this? I heard some where not to buy the ones from walmart that they don't work. thanks we purchased a very cheap camera onboard the ship. it is a reusable underwater 35mm with flash. better than the ones you buy at wal mart imo. it was only something like $15 in the photo area of the ship. i was scared to take my good digital camera to the beach, for fear of sand etc. ruining it...why have a nice camera right if you are scared to use it lol:confused: also, just a hint, i had my film all developed the last night on the ship. regardless of what others say, i got free doubles, and they were less than at home. this way, any of my photos of the ship did not turn out, i could go back and take more before getting off the ship. i am not sure if the special (free 2nd set) is something that is running all week long, or just offered on the last night. we picked up our pics early sunday morning and they were great. I had my digital camera, underwater camera (reusable i purchased on the ship) and 2 disposable underwater cameras, and my regular 35mm. if you really want to spend the money, you can go buy a nice digital camera, and then buy the housing for it, that seals the camera so you can go underwater....but they can be pricey. like i said, i was happy with the $15 camera on bought onboard.
