On the Noordam to AK, do you think there will be an issue with aft pool deck chairs since it will be cold(er)? My parents are in VA8115.

Rooms Not To Book - NORWEIGAN PEARL:

 

11524, Penthouse AB - Directly under the free weights and weight machine in the gym. Absolutely disturbing - and until NCL decides to curb the gym's 24 hour operation, they will definitely get more complaints. We also had mini suite 11526 for our daughters, which also heard the noise, but not quite as loud as the master bedroom. Our friends were in 11522 and 11520 and they were also disrupted (these are mini suites).

It took NCL Pearl staff 4 days to close the gym at 10pm. Ridiculous.

This was the best cruise I have ever been on. Service and food were great. Several mornings there was a very load noise just under our cabin. Being on the lowest passenger deck, I would guess the deck under us was a cargo deck or some other type of crew work deck. The noise sounded like something large being pulled across a metal floor and it was on and off every 30 seconds to a minute for up to 30 minutes. We still got enough sleep and did not complain.

thanks for all the info on these rooms I just booked another cruise for me and my dh. I was shocked to find 1 of the most sought after cabins still available we are in 8232 on the Pride. I originally had 8184 so thanks a bunch serene56 for posting this info on the room. My pvp told me the cabin is 185 sf and the balcony is 100 sf :D I also asked about the noise and she said I shouldnt hear anything as we are under the cafe (hope she was right)

Lets face it, no matter where you stay whether on a ship or in a hotel, there is always the chance for noise. We all agree that noise is bad when we want to get some sleep or stay asleep. There are things we can do in advance to help reduce the chances of a sleepless night. Remember there are things on a ship which need to be performed only at night when the vast majority of passengers are asleep. Some noises are really unpreventable (like the anchor and chain if you are near the front, the decks being washed and prepared for the next day, the tender doors being opened very early in the morning after arrival at the dock, etc.).

 

My point is you may be in one of the rooms near these noisy conditions because you were 'upgraded' or it was the best choice when you booked your cruise, or didn't know the cabin may have had a noise problem. And to take it one step further, the ship can't move you to a different cabin.

 

What things can we all do to reduce this problem and continue to enjoy our vacation?

 

I for one always travel with an eye mask and ear plugs, just for this reason. I don't want to wake up the next morning and still be angry because of the noise. I want to be able to start the day feeling good and enjoy the time I have while on-board. We all know and have witnessed those cruisers which find every problem and use them as their excuse for their having a bad time. Why focus on the negative?

 

What other tips can we give to fellow cruises which can help to reduce these types of issues if they do happen?:)

Great room. We had this room on the Legend(twice)!Loved it!Heard very little noise and the balcony is the greatest!Enjoy.

Has anyone had any experiance in a room above the casino? We have room 6214 on the Carnival Destiny and it would appear from the ship maps that the casino is right below. Do you hear much noise? A little is acceptable and even expected but a lot may be worth checking into a move. What about cigarette smoke seaping through the floor? This may sound strange but I've stayed in hotels before next to smoking rooms and the non-smoking room reaks of stale cigarette smoke as well. We will be celebrating hubby's big 5-0 and I am trying to make sure he enjoys himself so much that the creeping years don't worry him. Thanks for your input. You guys are awesome!

We're taking our first cruise and first cruise together at the end of June to Alaska.. Any idea if this room is any good? We were upgraded from the Emerald deck to this room...It looks to be across from stairs and elevators...so I'm alittle nervous. Thanks!

Looks to me like you are directly under the Windjammer Cafe which is the buffet restaurant. It will be busy mostly for breakfast and lunch, not so much late at night. You may hear some noise early in the morning around start of breakfast.:D

Any comments :) . Also for all you that have done a TA how do they keep the food so fresh, must be a problem somewhat since no deliveries in the middle of the ocean. We noticed that the fruit started going "south" even on our seven day cruise (our first cruise) last year.

Cabin #8146 on the Constellation looks like a great location to me. I would have probably picked that room myself. A TA cruise doesn't sound like a cruise that you will find alot of young people on anyway. Should be pretty quiet.:D

Do not book V42 on the Inspiration. Obstructed view means NO view. Two big orange life boats, and white metal railings in-between, this room shouldn't cost as much as the other Cat 11's.

We just got back from 10 day Mexican Riviera cruise on the Golden Princess. We had a great cruise; however, I recommend you avoid Emerald 514 if you are a light sleeper. We booked this outside cabin without a balcony because we were concerned about having a balcony with our 2 1/2 year old on board. We have cruised many times and thought the balcony could pose a danger. In retrospect this was an unfounded fear. The plexiglass made it impossible for our son to climb over the railing. Anyway, due to our fear we booked this standard outside cabin. The cabin was on deck 8, one deck above the lounges in the middle of the ship. Every night, until midnight, we could hear the bass player in the band in the lounge below our cabin. In addition, we tendered into port 3 out of 4 ports and wouldn't you know the lifeboat right outside our room window was used for every port. It sounded like a plane was going to crash through our window every morning at about 6:00 a.m.

 

We politely complained to the Purser's Desk and they said they would investigate. Nothing changed. However, on day 5 of our 10 day cruise a balcony cabin opened up and we were moved by Princess up 2 decks. They handled the matter as best they could. I would only suggest that cruise lines simply disclose noise issues, like they do obstructed views so passengers could make up their own mind on where to stay. The cabin should have been discounted due to the noise, no different than one with an obstructed view. Regardless, Princess handled the matter well and kept me a loyal customer.

do NOT book this cabin or the one on the other side of the ship on the legend if you can avoid it. the deck plans make this cabin look like it has a great balcony - but in reality, the balcony is about 1/2 the size of a normal balcony. also, there is a stairwell from 3rd deck that leads right up to the window looking into the cabin - right into the bed! we had to spend our entire cruise with the curtain closed, since anyone could (and did) wander up the stairwell and decide to look in on our cabin - at all hours of the day and night!

carnival did not handle this well in our opinion, especially when we went to the pursers desk to complain, and they told us that there was no stairwell there.

 

it took a year, but finally carnival gave us a future obc to make up for it, and supposedly they are going to be correcting the deck plans...

It is either 7 or eight that may be a consideration for upgrade. I will speak with agent again tomorrow. This is a good place to be able to read some negative thing to look for since nothing is ever perfect but most I have read has been good.

You didnt say how much it will cost to upgrade to a balcony.

For your first cruise-- i say stay where you are. You will e out and about most time--except to sleep and change. UNLESS youplan on spending time in your cabin then get the balcony where you can gt outside.

 

But you can do that on the outside decks-it just wont be as private.

 

(sleeping on vacationwhile on a cruise is sooo different then when you are at home- i dont know if its the motion of the ocean--the sea air or what.

To upgrade you will be paying todays rate for the balcony cabin--depending on when you booked your oceanview cabin that could be a lot more money

On our last cruise on the Valor we were also directly under the casino, i thought I would be hearing bells and whistles in my dreams.... but we heard nothing!! the location was excellent. Hopefully for you on the Destiny it will be the same.

Don't pick JS 6694 on the Voyager of the Seas, we hated it. The cabin is a little longer than the side cabins, but narrower so the walk in closet is not really a walk in closet, it is much smaller, and the whole room seems smaller because the width is what makes the JS's feel spacious. The cabin is always dark and dreary as the sunlight hardly ever reaches it or the balcony. And worst of all, you can hardly see the water. You are getting a bigger balcony with two lounge chairs, but without the sun or a view, they are totally useless. Stay away!

Our room on the grand princess is located under one of the theater on Grand princess. And its a balcony.

 

Anybody had any trouble with room being under a lounge or theater. Its a balcony room??? :confused:

I am glad that you are getting a balcony...it will be great since we are right next door to you. I wonder if anyone on this site has had a bad room on the 7th deck????? and which one !! Please I want to know if our cabin is quiet??? Rhapsody of the sea..6/24/2007 Help us please !!:confused:
