pesos or dollars?

Everything had the price in pesos and in U.S. dollars on it. My husband said the prices came out to be equal and he's really good at math, unlike me.:o We were curious too, thinking maybe using pesos would be cheaper. But the CD said it would make no difference what type of currency we used because the prices came out about the same. Plus it would be one less thing that you would have to carry around.:)

Most of the vendors and eateries will take either. But when figuring exchange rates they will always round to thier favor not yours. If you plan on doing a lot of shopping there is no need to bring pesos with you. In the main plaza go to the south east corner, down the walkway there are two banks with ATM's that you can use your card in. Instant pesos. Plus you get the bank exchange rate which will be better than anywhere else on the island most days.

I've heard that if you use dollars you might get your change back in pesos, so be careful. Just have a lot of small bills so that the change back won't be so difficult. The Atm thing is a good idea. Will be in Cozumel in Sept. Can't wait, but don't want to get ripped off.

We spent a week in Cozumel last month, it is better to pay in pesos and you will get better rate if exchange in Cozumel. For example, the time we was there, the current exchange rate was 11.20 for $1US. If you pay by dollar, the retail will round it to 11, it is only approximately $2 for every $100US. There is at least one exchange booth at every cruise ship terminal.
