TV service on the ship

OK..this may be a stupid question. I am going on the Serenade of the Seas in March. My boyfriend likes to keep the TV on while he sleeps (bad habit)....what is the tv service like on the ships? Is it a satelite type thing or are there movies on? Just curious :)

There is really no "live" tv--except for a news program. Most of the shows are re-runs, from CBS, Nick, etc. They do have a movie channel or two--nothing really 1st run. LOTS of shows from the ship--the Love and Marriage game will be aired, and some of the demonstrations they do.

He will be able to find stuff to "sleep" to, but it won't be what he's used to at home!

There is a variety of programming including movies, usually similar to those currently being shown on HBO or on your airline flight to the port city, and satellite tv programs (CNN, ESPN - sometimes the international versions of both). It definitely isn't as dismal a prospect as some would have you believe. :( We have even watched live major league football and baseball games in our stateroom. Sometimes satellite access isn't available and in such cases there is usually an assortment of pre-recorded programs which will be shown during those times. There are also channels featuring the various shore excursions, broadcasts of some of the shows that take place during the cruise, and pay per view movies. You can also check your shipboard account, get a view from the bridge, see the route of your cruise and the current position of the ship, order room service and make reservations at the alternative restaurants through your stateroom TV. Sometimes the remote will have a sleep button so that you can set it to go off after your partner falls asleep.:)

most of the stuff on tv is pre-recorded shows...they do patch into cnn headline news...and somtimes you can get espn...but not all of the time...espn in spanish is kind of a hoot and a half...they will also video tape alot of the shows and play them back in the cabin also...it's not the greatest but then again your on a cruise and not supposed to watching tv...i'm sure he'll make due...you keep him occupied at nite...
