Don't get his hopes up. We had a CC Room service smoothie and it was undrinkable, just awful. Neve again.

Ours was with Soy Milk, and some people do not like the taste. I love the Soy Milk Smoothie (Bananas, Soy Milk and Honey).

Where is the "pursers desk"?

Is it known by another generic name?

The more modern name currently used on the ship is "guest relations".

They don't use the term "purser" anymore.

So we're talking about the main desk in the lobby on the lowest floor of the atrium - deck 3 on most, if not all, of the ships. If this was in a hotel you'd call it the front desk.

Funny, but when I asked our butler about some shrimp cocktail, he looked at me like I was insane. lol I read it on the threads and thought that would be a nice treat in our suite before dinner. Oh well. lol

O and lets not forget a plate of fresh fruit and a slice of pizza, O lets say around an hour before going into the MDR!!. Come on now! where cruising..

Just back from a week on the Solstice where I noticed a few changes:

The charges for cashing in your OBC's has gone from 3% to 5%

They charge extra for Fresh Squeezed OJ and Smoothies.(except in Blu)

No chocolate fountain at the weekly brunch.

The menu in Blu has not changed since 2009.

They have a 14 day menu for longer cruises but choose to repeat the 7 day version over and over for the past 4 years.

The Theater shows have not changed in the past 3-4 years....not so much as a new song!

Activities staff barely speak English and cannot be understood during trivia games.

The Art Auctions are gone......replaced by a resident artist who charges 2K+ for most of his work.

Enrichment speaker started out teaching computer classes...when that job was eliminated....she magically became qualified to lecture as an expert on all things Caribbean. What a joke!

How disappointing!

Re the art auction; the reason they aren't there any longer... the company they had went bankrupt Some of my friends had to fight for a year to recoup most of their money back; still lost on the exchange and processing fees; received little help from Celebrity.

All this worries me from a cruise line that was certainly better than the rest.

The charges for cashing in your OBC's has gone from 3% to 5%Have never cashed in an Obc. I didn't know that you could

They charge extra for Fresh Squeezed OJ and Smoothies.(except in Blu)Not if your in Concierge

No chocolate fountain at the weekly brunch.

The menu in Blu has not changed since 2009.

They have a 14 day menu for longer cruises but choose to repeat the 7 day version over and over for the past 4 years.I just got off the Solstice after a 14 day cruise 2 months ago. The menu changed for all 14 days

The Theater shows have not changed in the past 3-4 years....not so much as a new song!

Activities staff barely speak English and cannot be understood during trivia games. They spoke only English and were clearly understood

The Art Auctions are gone......replaced by a resident artist who charges 2K+ for most of his work.Already addressed

Enrichment speaker started out teaching computer classes...when that job was eliminated....she magically became qualified to lecture as an expert on all things Caribbean. What a joke! We had fabulous enrichment speakers on our 14 day cruise...professional and intellectual

Wow! I can't believe that we were both on the same ship...seperated by 2 months. It must have changed drastically in that time.

TO DMK,

Forget the 2 months... seems like 2 weeks ago things were much different on the Solstice when I sailed her than SLOINDOWN's recollections here...

Just back from a week on the Solstice where I noticed a few changes:

The charges for cashing in your OBC's has gone from 3% to 5%

They charge extra for Fresh Squeezed OJ and Smoothies.(except in Blu). As noted this has been the case for some time now... you can get Fresh Squeezed OJ and Smoothies from the Breakfast Menu if you are in Concierge Class or above

No chocolate fountain at the weekly brunch. It was there 10 Days ago... although I have to admit that it was pretty hidden away, being at the very back of the room.

English wasn't the gal's first language for sure, but she was extremely friendly and patient and understanding... don't believe that it was an easy "job" for her either. BTW, how is your Italian ?

The Art Auctions are gone......replaced by a resident artist who charges 2K+ for most of his work. Loved his work, but prices were waaaay beyond most people's budgets (saw one piece that he wanted $ 15,000 for)

Enrichment speaker started out teaching computer classes...when that job was eliminated....she magically became qualified to lecture as an expert on all things Caribbean. What a joke! Might have been a last minute replacement in the Apple Studio actually... there was a very knowledgeable guy working there when I took classes just 10 days ago. As well, I noticed that the Solstice was going thru a period when a good number of staff were being shuffled, and a turn-over in contracts... people leaving (even mid-week) and others coming on. Made for some crazy over-laps once in awhile

"cashing in your OBC's": what does that mean? Do you mean asking for cash instead of spending the credits? If so, I didn't know one could even do that either. Though I have no reason for doing it since what I end up owing is always more than the OBC. :D

If you ever had "extra" OBC. You can cash it in at the casino. $100 cash from casino costs you $ 105 now instead of $ 103. $ 60 costs you $ 63. I've had $ 500 OBC on a seven night cruise (various reasons), so I cash a bunch of it for cash. (that was before there was a fee)

Ah yes, Carnival, the Nascar of cruising.

TO SCOTTBEE,

Guessing that this is sort of a "regional" reference and not necessarily one that means "one speeds round a course of islands in a short period of time"

(Nascar not having a gigantic following here in Canada like it does in the USA).

Personally, I've always thought of Carnival as the Frat-Party of Cruising... way to many drunken folks out of control (waaaay out of control) for my liking...

(Dare I even say, in light of the recent Costa Mishap... sadly even perhaps a Captain)

Which is why when we were looking to cruise, Carnival wasn't even on the radar !!

Cheers!
