The road from Valetta to Mdina

Can anyone tell me what the road from Valetta to Mdina is like? Is it mountainous and cliffy or are there trees &/or land on either side or the road?

Also, how long isthe ride on a bus and do the buses run frequently from Mdina back down to Valetta? :confused:

The road is excellent, with no precipitous dropoffs, although the elevation does increase toward Mdina. It took us 45-minutes by private guide/car from Mdina to the cruise dock in Valletta, so public transportation would be considerably longer - I imagine - depending on the route and stops.

 

BTW, Mdina is spectacular. If you're in Malta, try to visit it but you'll need to allow sufficient time.

 

And do be sure to be on deck to see your ship enter Valletta harbor. It's a sight to behold!
