Telephone availability on Pride

Hello all,

 

I'm a first time cruiser. I would like to keep in touch with my aging mom while on vacation on the Pride in the Mexican Riviera. I will have my cell phone with me. I have my cellphone service with Sprint. How available will phone useage be while on the Pride. And, when I'm in port will I have access to the 805 area code. Do I need to set this up with Sprint etc.?
