CrusinAgain Posted April 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2007 Carnival has so much to offer with its wonderful beds, large cabins and showers, great service and food that has actually been better than Princess. I really feel the main thing Carnival lacks is showing movies in the theater. Princess shows several current (before they come out on DVD) movies a day in their theater and I know Carnival has the screen and equipment to do so but Princess has awful beds, no 24 hour pizza, no free icecreme and no fruit punch or lemonade. Showing movies would really give an edge over some competition. Yeah, I know some people don't go on a cruise to see movies but you can say that about every activity including suntanning and swimming. Catching up or vegetating watching a movie is relaxing. What do others think about Carnival should start offering current movies in the theater?
Cotton Posted April 22, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2007 When I first started cruising, there were regular movie theatres on Carnival ships. Now, they show fairly recent movies on the cabin tvs. No need for a theatre, IMO.:)

mzloolue Posted April 22, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2007 I think it would be very nice if they showed movies in a theater. Big screen and popcorn.:)
BrendaB1 Posted April 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2007 I cruised Princess to Alaska. IMHO Movies in theatre wore boring. Movies under the stars on the big screen on Liberty was nice....if you wanted to watch movies.
mek Posted April 22, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2007 Yes, I like to "go" to the movies. If I watch a movie in my cabin, I usually end up falling asleep.
hstrybuf Posted April 22, 2007 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2007 If I'm going to watch a movie on a sea day, I'd much rather do it in the privacy of my cabin where I have choices and can move around and talk if I want to.
ATLCruiseJunkie Posted April 22, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2007 Don't some of the ships have big screens on the Lido deck where they show movies, etc?

I agree with the OP. I personally don't care about many of the activities on a cruise ship but I do think the movie theater would be a nice option to have. Ballwin Babe Posted April 22, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 22, 2007 While I am not a movie-goer, my husband is. He loves to go to the movie in the evening, and I love the quiet time for reading in the cabin! This would seem to be a relatively low cost addition for Carnival. We just finished a 12 day on Celebrity and they also had reasonably good films showing. They actually have a cinema that is more like a theater than the venue offered on other ships. Rather than converting a lounge to a "theater", they use the cinema for lectures or other meetings when a film is not being shown. The result is more comfort and better sight lines for watching the film.
Twinflow Posted April 22, 2007 #11 Share Posted April 22, 2007 Carnival shows movies in the aft lounge. It is big and comfortable plus bar service is easier for them at that location. The theatre is used during the day for practice sessons. The dancers and Legend Show performers need to practice. Yes, the dancers keep going over their steps and practice makes perfect. If the weather goes bad then movies are sometimes shown in the theatre because it holds more passengers. Full out your comment cards and let them know your feelings. I don't cruise for movies that would be a waste of my time.
cruzincurt Posted April 22, 2007 #12 Share Posted April 22, 2007 We like the opton of going to a movie in the theater. Sometimes on a sea or port day, we are just looking for something to do around 3:00 or so before getting ready for late dinner seating. Watching a movie on a small screen TV just ain't the same. We probably hit one movie during the week on other lines.
DanniC Posted April 22, 2007 #13 Share Posted April 22, 2007 After a long day in port I would watch a movie in a theater. I do not watch them in the rooms. I like the movie under the stars too. Never done it but would like it. Some popcorn and a mixed drink laying in a lounge chair watching a movie sounds so nice!
VentureMan_2000 Posted April 22, 2007 #14 Share Posted April 22, 2007 A movie would be very low on a list of cruise amenities I would like to see... probably not even on the list at all. But I'm sure some would like it. While I don't gamble, I would think that more gaming tables would be of bigger interest. They already have a smoke 'til you puke cigar lounge... :D

You're assuming you would be able to find a lounge chair near the movie screen that isn't saved by the chair hogs... :D

CrusinAgain Posted April 22, 2007 Author #17 Share Posted April 22, 2007 The movies shown on the Carnival Miracle were old movies in a lounge. What I am talking about is during the day movies being shown in the Carnival theater...the dancers don't need the theater all day obviously since they use it for Bingo alot. Going to a theater is totally different than watching one on the small TV screen in your room. If Princess and others can do it, why can't Carnival? Not everyone wants to spend the entire day at the pool. You would be amazed how packed the theater was on the Princess ships and they would use the same theater as the shows were in at night. I only know of one Carnival ship that has an outdoor theater, several of Princess ships have them but I do like the indoor ones better. The way I see is they are already paying for the movies they have to be shown on your TV, they have the equipment to show movies in the theater, why not have the movies shown in the theater? Mikew0805 Posted April 22, 2007 #18 Share Posted April 22, 2007 As long as there are people that will want to watch movies, in a theater setting, then I think they should have em. Why not?
arby70 Posted April 22, 2007 #19 Share Posted April 22, 2007 I'd like to see movies in a theatre happen on Carnival. I like to see them on a bigger screen with my popcorn and pop in hand. It would just be another choice on the ship for entertainment. I agree with another poster that I tend to fall asleep watching tv in my cabin. CrusinAgain Posted April 23, 2007 Author #22 Share Posted April 23, 2007 We were on the Miracle in January and they showed the movie Grease in the theatre Thats a step up since the movies were shown in the Mad Hatters Lounge and they were old like Grease when we were on the Miracle but wouldn't it be great if the movies were in the theater or even the lounge of newer releases? CrusinAgain Posted April 23, 2007 Author #23 Share Posted April 23, 2007 No thanks! Would not attend them. Thats okay, its just another choice of entertainment for people. I don't go to art auctions or spend my day by the pool but that doesn't mean they shouldn't offer them because some don't do these activities does it? DanniC Posted April 23, 2007 #24 Share Posted April 23, 2007 You're assuming you would be able to find a lounge chair near the movie screen that isn't saved by the chair hogs... :D Well I'm glad you brought it up. I'm going to carry nail clippers with me so I can snip that zip tie that someone went to the casino to have a hole punched in the towel and then zip tied it to the chair. I will then throw the towel somewhere(on the to lock your luggage thread). Probally on that child that was knocked out cold by a mans elbow wich he then put in a chair to save it while he went to his cabin to take a nap. The kid is probally getting chilly so I will cover him up.(on the chair hog thread) Then I will have a chair to watch the movie in. But I will make sure my big butt doesnt go off the side of the chairs and that no fat rolls cover my tattoos.(from nudity on ship thread) And like I have said two or three times today TROUBLE MAKER!!! LOL/Hee-Hee
nofishforme Posted April 23, 2007 #25 Share Posted April 23, 2007 i dont think i would go to see a movie on a nice sunny day thats what deck chairs are for but on a rainy day nothing would be better then a big buttered popcorn and a drink of the day ..and movies under the stairs sounds great to me and the drink of the day
