When will you be sailing on Windstar?

Hi, we are excited about our first Windstar cruise, Istanbul-Athens. We have sailed on other lines, but first time w/Windstar and first time to be in Istanbul.

 

Any suggestions about how to get the most out of Istanbul as we are going to be there a few days before the cruise would be appreciated. Would going on our own to see the city be best or use a guide??

 

Also anything about the cruise itself that might help us be prepared for a great week would be most welcomed.

We were on the Athens-Istanbul last summer. It was absolutely wonderful!! We hired a private tour guide. I highly recommend it. We were able to see so much in a day. The guide also took us to an authentic Turkish restaurant for lunch where all the locals go. The city is very large and crowded--with the private guide and car, the driver was able to zip around and drop us off at the sites with the guide. We were able to beat most large groups.
