Yukon Discovery Tour

We have the option to rent a car to Carcross in the end of August or take the Yukon Discovery Tour. Any recommendations? Pros and cons? We would appreciate your experience. Thanks:) We will be in Skagway from 7am to 8:30pm.

This will be my first trip to Alaska, but we're doing the Carcross/Yukon rail and bus Chilkook excursion. I'm sure by renting a car, you'll have more options on what & how long you stay at different areas; and with a group, it would be less expensive. But for our 5 day land portion of the Alaskan trip, I'll be doing all the driving; and we will be in a go go go mode. And because we will be in a rental for Denali, Anchorage, & Seward, we will miss the Alaskan Rail experience. So the train/bus Chilkook tour in Skagway will be our train adventure for Alaska; plus it'll give me one extra day to relax and let someone else do the driving. Either way, it looks to be one of the MANY highlights of your trip.
