Is Enchantment too small?

We're looking to cruise on Enchantment next year. We've cruised on Serenade and Explorer and enjoy the large ships. With that in mind, my wife is a little concerned about "downgrading" to a smaller ship. How does Enchantment compare to the "larger" ships.

I cruised the Mariner in January 2006, then cruise #2 was the Enchantment January 2007. I loved the Mariner and kind of wondered the same thing, but really there wasn't a big difference! I liked the Enchantment, we watched all the shows, stopped in the casino and shopped the shops on board...those were different than the Mariner but I didn't do a whole lot of shopping on board either ship....I really think she is worth the try!!! We are doing the Grandeur this January and she is smaller yet, she didn't get the stretch the Enchantment did!!??

 

Enachantment never seemed crowded, anymore so than Mariner, was always pool chairs, always tables in the windjammer and seats at the shows!! Give it a try, I think you'll like her too!!

Been on Mariner, looking foward to Enchantment this June. Enjoyed the Mariner, but for me it is a little over the top, but would go again in a heartbeat. You can forget you are even at sea sometimes. however, my Wife enjoys the larger ships.

She's not too small. But she is smaller than the ones you've been on. Her dining room is a 2 level room giving it that open feel. The worst thing I can say about her is that her more expensive suites are directly under the Windjammer making it possibly rather disruptive to your sleep at 4am. But I love the ship and would like cruise on her again soon. I also find that she has a very easy to navigate deck plan and is kept in great shape. I've had nothing but positive experiences with her crew, too.

Enchantment really isn't all that much smaller than the Radiance Class of ships... Since her stretch, she's actually longer. The pax capacities are very close to each other. Ship size is generally determined by gross tonage, so the Radiance Class is bigger...

Passenger Capacity: 2,501

Gross Tonnage: 90,090

Length: 962'

 

Enchantment:

Passenger Capacity: 2,446

Gross Tonnage: 80,700

We just got off the EOS,and we've sailed the AOS,Mariner and Freedom....difference is NIGHT & DAY! While we liked the Enchantment,at 80,000 tons,she is tiny compared to the big ships....no Royal Promenade,no ice rink,no 18 bars & lounges...Boleros is real nice on the EOS,as is the Schooner Bar-but I really missed the Promenade area,which we were in every night (British Pub,Vintages.....) As long as you know that options are much fewer,you'll be fine..or don't expect a Hyatt Regency when you book a Holiday Inn......

I have to agree with Big Al. Was first on the Mariner, then about 9 months later sailed on EOS. Huge difference, in terms of things to see or do. It all depends on how active you are and what you are seeking out of the ship. My wife and I are active people and found ourselves slightly bored, especially at night, on the EOS. When we sailed the Mariner, we were exhausted by midnight because we had so much fun dancing, singing and having a good time.

 

From now on, we are going to try and stick to Voyager Class and above.

We love the "smaller" ships, and often sail Vision, Splendour, etc., by choice. Maybe you'll like them too. Nancy

Just returned from Voyager of the Seas, sister ship to Enchantment. Voyager was not stretched and I will not sail on her again. In my opinion after you have enjoyed the larger ships with the glitz it is a disappointment to downsize.

Which ship were you really on? Voyager is not sister to the Enchantment. Voyager is a much larger ship with the Royal Promenade.

Well, NOW I understand. I suspected I'd feel the same about the Grandeur.

 

My sister enjoyed the Grandeur. But her first cruise was Majesty in a standard OV before the refurbishment. Then the Grandeur in a JS, then the very old Carnival Fantasy with me. If she ever has the opportunity to cruise on a "real" newer ship, boy, will she be surprised. It's probably better that she just work her way up slowly so as to not get too spoiled too fast. :)

We cruised on the Explorer, then the Mariner and our 3rd cruise was on the Enchantment. While we loved the voyager class ships, we also loved the Enchantment...so much we are going on her again in 3 weeks! I too, did miss the Promenade and the ice show but other than that, we really didn't feel that the Enchantment lacked anything. We were on her pre-stretch so are really excited about seeing all the changes, especially being about to go to Chops. Personally, I think that the dollar value of the Enchantment is much better than the Voyager class ships.

We have been on the Mega ship, Freedom, and 2 Voyager class. We have also sailed the tiny Empress, and small Majesty. They all have their own ambiance. Each ship in the fleet is unique in its own way. Go on them with an open mind, and you should have a wonderful cruise! We have loved every minute we have been at sea, on every ship!

 

We would like to be able to try out each and every one of the RC ships! Then, we will know for ourselves firsthand, the ambiance that each ship has of their own!

:D That is actually a photo of the Grandeur of the Seas. My brother-in-law was determined to take all the vodka he wanted. He heard the "trick" to taking it on board. Was I surprised when my sister sent me this avatar from her camera phone before they departed.

 

I can't believe he went to all the trouble. He dyed the vodka to match the label. Did he really think anyone would believe he'd need that much mouthwash on a one week cruise? That must be some breath he has. :eek:
