staufj22 Posted May 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2007 Hi All, We'll have about a day and a half in Fairbanks after our cruisetour. I'll be renting a car, and would like some advise on what to do and what to see. Here is what we have found so far.. -Santa Clause House - Seems like just a gift shop of sorts? -Dog Sledding demo and kart ride -Museum of the North - This is located at the university -Hot Air balloon - This one is a maybe. Any other suggestions and ideas?
AkSusan Posted May 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2007 You're right the Santa Claus House is mainly a gift shop but they do have a reindeer outside :D Just saw a news program on the Musem of the North at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and they've just completed a whole new redo. From the looks up it the next time I make it to Fairbanks, it's on my to do list. Actually I have a coworker that lives there and the Museum of the North is on his list of to do things. Susan in Anchorage :)
40yearcruiser Posted May 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2007 We will be leaving next weekend on our cruise--our first to Alaska so I have no experience there so far. In Fairbanks we plan to go to Pioneer Park at least one evening to look around and go to the salmon bake. We're on a cruisetour which includes the Eldorado Gold Mine tour and a cruise on the Riverboat Discovery, which I hear is very nice.
Budget Queen Posted May 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2007 Some of my Fairbanks recommendations. Botanical Garden at the Fairbanks U- also the large animal research tour. Public lands building- especially if the Northern Lights film is on their schedule. Ice Museum, Creamer's Field- include the hiking. Turtle Club resturant, and Chatanika Lodge are good eating options. The Palace theater show, excellent- at Pioneer Park. http://www.explorefairbanks.com The Santa Claus House is worth the trip if you have kids- great getting a card direct from the North Pole. :)
