neatokimmo Posted June 20, 2008 #153 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I'm a big fan of water and cloud pictures. We were on our way back to Miami on the Triumph and the water was freaky smooth. And it felt like we were sailing into the clouds that were resting on the water. Wigged me out just a bit :)
KandCsailing Posted June 20, 2008 #154 Share Posted June 20, 2008 A random island off the coast of Belize: Me too, I was really happy to be on deck at the right time. I was amazed when I saw a pilot boat coming from the island and lighthouse in the middle of nowhere. But seeing dolphin playing in the ships wake while on my balcony was the best. Although they are so tiny in my photo, only I get a thrill from it. (They are at the bottom)
Jabee Posted June 20, 2008 #155 Share Posted June 20, 2008 We were on the Glory and we were cruinig OUT from St. Thomas right at sunset. It was neat as we set sail, to suddenly see the ligts in town start to come on. It reminded me of turning the lights on at our Christmas Village we set up every year. the lights just popped on one at a time, and the we could see the lights going up the mountains, etc...it was chilling. The second most amazing thing, was when a man had a heart attack on the Celebration and we pulled closer to shore. The coast guard came out and met us and transferred the man to the boat. Hundreds of guests were watching in awe at the brave men of the Coast Guard. We all applauded as the pulled off.

wannawannacruise Posted June 23, 2008 #158 Share Posted June 23, 2008 My most memorible site from a cruise ship was during my first cruise, to Ensenada, it was September, beautiful weather, I woke and went to the Lido deck for my usual Buffet expierence. I had gathered all my wonderful delights and sat down at a table that looked out off the side of the ship. To my astonishment, a loud noise and a quick snap of my head to my left and there even with the ship was a F16 fighter jet, the pilot looked over waved and took off! Did I say it was September 12, 2001? Later that day while walking around the ship, taking pictures of the scenes, out on the distance, far away, was a Military ship....I found out later they were giving us escort. But those sites I will never forget.....scarey at first, but the realization that they were there for our security and wellfare finally sunk in. Happy Sailing, Holly Cheers to the Men and Women of our Armed Services! :D
dragonflymy2000 Posted June 23, 2008 #159 Share Posted June 23, 2008 For us its a cross between the whales in the Pacific sailing from Cabo or rescuing Cubans from a sinking boat last month heading towards Cozumel.
Avril Posted June 23, 2008 #160 Share Posted June 23, 2008 What's the coolest, most memorable thing you've seen while at sea? Here's mine: Sailing from Puerto Vallarta on the Pride during a massive thunderstorm. :D The lightning was so bright it lite everything up as bright as day. The storm went on for 3 or 4 hours and it was incredible being at sea during it. Quite a few bolts of lightning struck the water 2 or 3 feet away from us. At one point, a paticularly strong bolt of lightning hit the ship!! We went up on deck the next morning to see where we had been hit and the lightning rod had been shredded. Here are some videos I took of the storm. In one of them, I was on my balcony and at teh end of the video, the ship gets hit by lightning. It (the storm) was awesome!!! :D http://travel.webshots.com/album/561000624WblxKt

findingnemoks Posted June 23, 2008 #162 Share Posted June 23, 2008 I'm taking my first cruise in October, but after reading these entries, there are so many things I'm hoping to see! Flying fish, storms, dolphins, sunsets...I can't wait! Also, I've never wanted to take an Alaskan cruise, but these posts have really intrigued me! I hate storms. Thanks!! :D I hate storms as well. This one was both scary and awesome all at the same time!! :D Looking back, as scary as it was, it was worth it and I'm so happy that I got the chance to experiance it. :D However, I never want to experiance it again. :( It wasn't just thundering and linghtning, but raining buckets as well. Our balcony got flooded (it didn't get into our cabin thankfully) and the water was running down the outside decks like a river. Incredibly, there were people swimming in the Lido pool during the storm (and no, they didn't have the roof closed).

figuremom Posted June 23, 2008 #167 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Can't recall if it was leaving Puerto Vallarta or Cabo San Lucas, but having a pod of dolphins jumping along the side of the ship. Watching their shadows under the water and then jumping. Also shooting stars and watching the wake the ship makes from the back of the ship. I can't wait until August to see what memories Alaska will bring.
JerseyshoreBruce Posted June 23, 2008 #168 Share Posted June 23, 2008 Coolest thing I saw was cruising on the Carnival Miracle during hurricane Katrina with 80 mph winds on deck....another cruise ship went by in the distance and it would go way out of site then come back into site with the big swells ( waves ) It was way too cool! ItsAllAboutTheSass Posted June 23, 2008 #169 Share Posted June 23, 2008 1st cruise I was on.... Big Red Boat out of PC. Sailing to Nassau at night. Rockee4055 Posted June 23, 2008 #170 Share Posted June 23, 2008 I've had several great moments, most have been mentioned here. Thunderstorma at sea - Our first cruise on the Disney Magic. DW and I were out for the evening haveing a few drinks. We were walking down a hallway to our cabin then up to get the kids of of the kids club. I kept falling into people and the ship was listing to one side. When we got on deck we realized there was a terrible storm out there. I stood there in awe at the light being pitch black then lighing up like daylight. Dolphins in St Thomas following us out. Marty Allen, yes he was on out cruise and we had our picture taken with him. I was going to post it and can't find it. Maybe it was pre-digital and it's in an album somewhere. Waves so high it sprayed our balcony and drenched it. And for the future, Alaska, whales and breaking ice.
gizzy15@iowatelecom.net Posted June 24, 2008 #171 Share Posted June 24, 2008 Watching a full Moon rise on the horizon at night it looked like a train light coming out of a tunnel. My sentiments exactly!
Ga Gal 08 Posted June 24, 2008 #172 Share Posted June 24, 2008 June, 2007 on the Glory on one of the sea days returning from the eastern Carribean. Everyone was out on deck and people were just pointing up at the sun. There was a full rainbow around the sun at midday, although there weren't any clouds in the sky. I managed to get a good picture--I googled it and found out this phenomenom is called a sun devil. Usually they are found in the northern latitudes as the sun shines though ice crystals. I have no idea how this happened in the lower latitudes of the Carribean.

We were on the Legend in March and watched the harbor master disembark the Legend and onto a harbor boat. We happened to be on the balcony watching. The boat then went to that island. It is a beautiful little island. It is also very close to Goff's Caye. We have pics of that island taken while snorkeling on Goff's Caye. If we had known that we would have gone up to take a few photos there but then would have missed the harbor master. :D

It's the island you go by right after the Sunshine Skyway out of Tampa sailings.) ..... that night I got engaged at Fort DeSoto Park at North Beach at sunset! Anyways, I saw that same thing, a rainbow around the sun on a beautiful day! I wish I could share this incredible pic I got, but don't have it on my webshots right now. Thanks for telling me what that was because it baffled me, too.... moreso now because Tampa is pretty south, too! I also love reading what cool things you guys have seen! This is an awesome thread!
