johnaricka Posted June 26, 2007 Author #26 Share Posted June 26, 2007 That's crazy to pay that much for stone island....We walked 3 blocks from the pier and took a water taxi for 50 cents a piece over to stone island. (about 5 minute boat ride) Sorry you didn't see this on the ports of call boards:( We just relaxed at a hole in the wall restaurant/bar and bought $1.50 Pacificos and they gave us chips and salsa free........ We know it now in hind sight. I didnt research it. I had planned on going to the resorts as our family had recommended.
LS35007 Posted June 26, 2007 #27 Share Posted June 26, 2007 I haven't cruised the Mexican Rivera but I LOVE CABO!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
johnaricka Posted June 26, 2007 Author #28 Share Posted June 26, 2007 Cabo!! This was our favorite! We got up and off the boat by 7 am and took a tender into Cabo. Once off the boat we wandered around looking at all the clear water in the marina. There were striped fish that you could see swimming around the boats. I took some photos but my camera doesn't do it justice. We didn't plan any excursions for the day but to walk around the city and do some shopping. Once the mall was opened we bought some tee-shirts and rash guards from a local surf shop. From there we stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe to buy more shirts. I know, go to Mexico and buy tee shirts! From there we went to Cabo Wabo!! This was what my husband had been hoping to see for the whole trip. We bought some tequila (and a little more) and some more tee shirts. We then had lunch in the restaurant. We chose to eat outside since it was 80 degrees and beautiful. We drank lots of beer and margaritas and ate carne asada tacos with nachos. My son had the chicken strips which were very good. They had good guacamole. It was different from others I had eaten, it was thinned with lots of lime juice so you could pour it on your tacos. It was different but good. We ate and drank for 50 bucks. We proceeded to a little flea market and bought some more souvenirs. We attempted to swim with the dolphins but we ran out of time. In hind sight we had enough time but I was concerned with making the boat in time. The boat was almost an hour late leaving. It was better to be safe than sorry. On the other hand, we enjoyed Cabo so much that missing the boat would have been an adventure! We plan on returning for a visit for Thanksgiving! This night was our last formal night. We really didn't make a huge chore out of. showered off quickly and threw on our clothes. Took some more pictures. Oddly, these I bought. Maybe it was the happiness of Cabo but they turned out better. After dinner we changed back into our shorts and gambled in the casino. I had a couple nickels in my bag and tossed them in a machine. I played off those five coins for three hours. Later we went to the comedy show. He was funny but not that funny. There were a lot of drunks in the show and I didn't enjoy their performance. The comedian made jokes of them all night. Our pics!! These are the fish you could see by the rocks. My son loves to fish and kept asking if he could borrow a pole. LOL The pride from the tender Our kids in town in front of a Jackaranda tree. We have purple ones in our town and I have never seen red ones. Lands End and all the jet skiers. johnaricka Posted June 26, 2007 Author #29 Share Posted June 26, 2007 The last day at sea was a cold gray one. I was really hoping for warm sun like the second day. I wanted the festivities and instead we had a bumpy ride home. That evening I even had some motion sickness. I think it was bad but I am a big baby. My kids were trying to spend every last moment they could with their friends. This vacation was a success. I was concerned that my husband wouldnt like cruising but he is already talking about the next one to the carribean and including more friends and family. pengu1n Posted June 26, 2007 #33 Share Posted June 26, 2007 We cruised on the Pride June 10th and also had Rey as our waiter. (Not a very good shot, he was busy dancing.) He was great and took good care of us, trying to anticipate any need. I loaded my pictures to photoworks.com & had them made into a photo book. It looks very professional & was very easy to do. You can see my book here: http://www.photoworks.com/members/pengu1n When I signed up on their page page it gave me a coupon for 50% off so the book was only $25 + about $6 for shipping. It arrived in about 4-5 days, although they said it would take about 10. Thanks for the review. It's fun to reminience.

Completely agree. We've done Stone Island a couple of times this way. Another very popular excursion is Randi's Happy Horses. You ride horses up the beach and have lunch at Victors. I'm not sure what "gross" food you were served but Victors serves some of the best garlic shrimp, pork ribs, and onion rings. And Pacificos were $1.25. Checking the port-of-call boards really is a must before cruising.

In Mazatlan we rode with Randi's Happy Horses...both my kids say that was there fave part of the trip. It was a geat experience to be able to ride horses on the beach as fast or slow as you wanted. Highly recommend! Just an overall awesome cruise!!

Thanks, but we have decided that we're going to change our cruise to the Spirit instead so we don't have to drive to Long Beach from San Diego. We'll get 1 more day of cruising for only $60.00!! El Cajon is pretty hot right now, but I love San Diego, so I live with it!! Dawn

We still talk about how good and inexpensive the shrimp dishes were at Victors. The $1.25 Pacificos did not hurt either.
